Why Box-n-Go Storage and Moving

If you’re searching for self-storage, moving, or both, you’ve probably already learned that the portable storage option brings real benefits. What Box-n-Go adds are two things national chains can’t offer: a personal service commitment and local knowledge. Here is why Box-n-Go is your best move in storage:

  • No truck rental needed
  • No double handling of your belongings
  • Indoor, climate-friendly storage
  • Secure storage
  • Pay only for the space you use
  • Ground-level loading and access
  • Locally owned, real people

And many more…

No truck rental needed

We bring the storage unit to your driveway. You load it when you have time. We pick it up when you’re done.

That means no trip to a rental counter. No driving an unfamiliar truck through city traffic. No clock ticking on a return deadline.

The unit can sit on your driveway for as long as you reasonably need. Most folks take a few days. Some take longer. If you fill it before you’re done packing, just let us know — we’ll bring another.

No double handling of your belongings

Traditional self-storage means handling your stuff four times. Into the rental truck. Out at the storage facility. Into the storage unit. Then reverse all of that when you need it back.

Each time something gets picked up, that’s another chance for a scratch, a drop, or a strained back.

Portable storage cuts that down to two. You load the unit at home. You unload it where it’s going. We handle everything in between — pickup, transport, storage, redelivery. Less wear and tear on your belongings, and a lot less wear and tear on you.

Here’s a customer-shot video showing exactly that — apartment packed up, storage unit loaded, our truck arriving, our forklift placing the container:

Indoor, climate-friendly storage

A lot of people assume portable storage companies leave their units sitting outside in a lot somewhere. We don’t. Every Box-n-Go storage unit lives inside our warehouse in Commerce, California — a commercial-grade building with thick concrete walls and an insulated roof. The thermal mass of a warehouse full of stored containers helps keep the temperature steady year-round: cool in summer, warm in winter, no extreme swings.

The containers themselves are also built to handle moisture. Our wood Flex units are framed like a house — breathable construction that equalizes the air inside the unit with the air outside, so moisture can’t get trapped. Our metal S through XL units use a different approach: diagonal ventilation built into the upper walls, plus an anti-condensation coating on the underside of the roof. Two designs, same outcome — no trapped moisture, no mold, no mildew, no musty smell when you open the unit back up.

Secure storage

Here’s something most people never think about: at a traditional self-storage facility, security is only as good as the people who walk in the gate. Once someone is past the gate code, they’re free to roam the corridors and try doors. That’s why theft and break-ins are common at traditional storage.

Box-n-Go is built differently. Customers don’t go inside our warehouse — ever. When you need access to your unit, we bring it outside to you. That alone removes the biggest security risk traditional storage has.

On top of that: containers are stacked indoors, which means a thief would need specialized equipment to move them around to get to any specific unit. The warehouse is monitored by video around the clock, with motion sensors and perimeter alarms after hours, on-site staff during business hours, and a building-wide sprinkler system. Your container has a three-point latching door, and you put your own padlock on it — we don’t keep keys.

We’ve operated this way since 2006. In all that time, we have not had a single break-in.

I want to:

Pay only for the space you use

Each storage unit holds about a room and a half of stuff. Need one? Order one. Moving a four-bedroom house? Order three. Not sure how much you’ll need? Order an extra. We’ll pick up any empties at no charge — you only pay for the ones you actually fill.

This matters because the wrong-sized space costs you money on both ends. With traditional self-storage, you have to pick a unit size before you’ve packed, and most people overshoot just to be safe. You end up paying for empty space for as long as you rent.

With Box-n-Go, you pack first and decide second. We have five sizes — from a compact 8′ × 5′ Flex up to a roomy 20′ × 8′ XL — so the unit fits your move. Not the other way around.

Ground-level loading and access

The storage unit sits flat on your driveway. You walk straight in and out — no ramp, no incline. Loading from a rental truck means hauling boxes and furniture up a steel ramp angled 30 degrees or more. Fine for light items. A lot harder with a couch or a refrigerator.

The same ground-level idea applies when you need to get into your unit at our warehouse. Traditional storage companies often charge extra for ground-floor units. Upper-floor units mean elevators, long corridors, and carts to push your stuff. At Box-n-Go, ground-level access is the standard — and it’s free. Schedule an appointment, and we’ll have your unit ready on the warehouse floor. Drive right up. Open it, take what you need, lock it back up.

Or skip the trip altogether — we can bring the unit to you. Same drive-up access, at your driveway, on your schedule. Customers love this option for partial moves, ongoing renovations, or just grabbing a few things without crossing town.

What Our Customers Think

Locally owned, real people

Box-n-Go has been independently owned and operated by the same two founders since 2006. There’s no franchise above us, no corporate parent, no national call center. When you call, a real person picks up — often one of the founders, often someone who’s been on the team for years.

Most companies pick a side: storage operators store, moving companies move. We do both, with the same containers and the same team. The unit we drop off at your driveway today is the same unit we’ll redeliver to your new place — across town, across the state, or across the country. Same containers, same crew, same company. One move, one phone number to call.

Local knowledge matters more than people expect. National chains schedule deliveries off a generic map. We know the hillside streets in the Palisades, the narrow alleys in Echo Park, the gated complexes in Long Beach. We know what equipment fits where, what time of day works best, and where to put the unit so you’ll actually be able to load it. Twenty years of doing this in Southern California shows up in details a national operator can’t replicate.

Most of our delivery and warehouse team have been with us for years. The same person who confirms your order may also be the one who shows up at your door.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Box-n-Go store containers indoors when most portable storage providers don’t?

Indoor storage protects belongings from temperature, humidity, sun, and pests. We’ve operated this way since 2006.

Is Box-n-Go a franchise or part of a national chain?

We are a local, independently owned company, operated with the same employees from a central location for the past 20 years.

Do I have to commit to a long-term contract?

No. After the first month, end your storage anytime. We refund any unused rent.

How is Box-n-Go different from the national portable storage brands?

We’re local. Our office and warehouse are in Commerce, California, and so is our team. When you call, you’re not routed to a call center out of state or out of the country — you’re talking to people who know the local roads, traffic, neighborhoods, and the area. We’re members of the community we serve. Side-by-side details on the Compare page.

Can I access my belongings while they’re stored at the warehouse?

Yes, by appointment. We pull your storage unit out and place it at ground level — no ramps, no elevators. We can also redeliver it to your home if that’s easier.
