Your Guide to Storage & Moving with Box-n-Go

Welcome to Box-n-Go University. Thank you for choosing us. We want to make your storage and moving experience as convenient and simple as we can, and this guide is where it begins. Whether you’ve booked a storage container or our A la Carte valet student service — and whether you’re storing, moving, or both — it walks you through how everything works: preparing and packing your belongings, getting them safely to storage or your new place, and bringing them back when you’re ready. Please look it over before your delivery or pickup, and come back to it any time.

What We Do

The idea behind Box-n-Go is simple: we bring the storage to you. You pack on your own schedule, and we pick it up and store it — or move it — from there. Almost everything we do comes down to three choices, and here’s how to tell which one is yours.

Container services — the right fit for most people storing or moving themselves. This is the heart of what we do. We drop off a storage container at your home, you load it whenever it suits you, and we take it from there — storing it at our facility, moving it across town or across the country, or leaving it on your property. It covers self-storage and self-moves alike, including student Self Load.

A la Carte valet — made for students. No container to load yourself. We come to you, pick up your things, store them safely, and bring them back when the next term starts. Ideal when you’re heading home for the summer and don’t want to haul everything with you. It’s our by-the-box student storage.

Rather not lift a thing? Let a crew handle it. Our licensed partners can do the heavy work two ways: full-service moving, where a truck and crew handle your whole local move start to finish, or loading help, where you keep your own container and a crew loads it for you — everything else stays just as simple.

Moving with us? Know your rights. A move comes with consumer protections written into law, and the official guides explain them in plain terms — we point you to them up front so nothing in the paperwork catches you off guard. For an interstate, state-to-state move, federal rules apply: the FMCSA Ready to Move brochure is a quick before / moving day / delivery day checklist with the questions to ask and how to confirm a mover is registered, and Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move walks through estimates, the bill of lading, your liability and coverage options, and how claims and disputes work. For a move within California, the California Public Utilities Commission’s guide to moving within California covers choosing a licensed mover, written estimates and the Not To Exceed price, protecting your goods, and how to file a claim.

How Box-n-Go Works

Here’s what to expect, step by step.

With our container services:

First, we deliver an empty storage container right to your address. Most driveways work fine — we only need about 8½ feet of clearance, far less than a big moving truck, so tight spots, side yards, and steep driveways usually aren’t a problem.

Then you load it, on your own time. There’s no rush and no need to be an expert — take a few days if you need them. When you’re finished, close it up with your own padlock. You keep the only key; we never hold a copy.

From there, it’s your call. We can pick the container up and store it safe at our facility, move it across town or across the country, or simply leave it on your property — whatever you need.

And your belongings stay yours the whole time. Want something out of storage later? Just call us. We’ll either set up a time for you to come see your container at our facility, or bring it right back to your door with a little notice. Store with us for a week or for years — it’s entirely up to you.

With A la Carte valet, there’s nothing for you to load at all. It’s our by-the-box student storage: we come to you, carry your things out one item at a time, store them safely at our facility, and bring them back when you’re ready for them again.

Prefer to have a crew do the work? You’ve got two ways to hand off the heavy lifting. With full-service moving, a truck and crew handle your whole local move from start to finish — you’ll barely touch a box. With loading help, you still get your own container, but a crew loads it (or unloads it) for you; everything else works exactly like our self-load service.

Your Storage Containers

Your storage containers are built for exactly this job. They’re breathable and all-weather, made to bring your things out in the same shape they went in. We offer five sizes, so there’s one to fit just about any need.

Not sure which size is right? Consider our modular container, the Flex. With Flex you can make up any amount of space you need — order a few, load whatever fits, and pay only for the space you actually use.

Two things are worth knowing before you load: each container has a weight limit, and a short list of items can’t be stored.

Sizes and weight limits. Load up to the limit for your size, and spread the weight evenly across the container.

Maximum Weight of Contents
Container Size Contents Weight Limit
Box-n-Go Flex (8′ × 5′) 2,000 lbs
Box-n-Go S (8′ × 8′) 8,000 lbs
Box-n-Go M (12′ × 8′) 7,650 lbs
Box-n-Go L (16′ × 8′) 7,300 lbs
Box-n-Go XL (20′ × 8′) 10,000 lbs

What you can’t store. A few things can’t go in a storage container — no liquids, no flammables, and no hazardous or perishable items. It’s a short list, and it’s there for everyone’s safety. See the full list of what you can’t store →

Keeping Your Account Current

Storage works on a simple understanding: keep your account current, and your belongings are always yours — to visit, to access, and to take back whenever you like. Life happens, though, and if payments fall behind, there’s a process we’re required by law to follow. Left unresolved, it can eventually end with stored goods being sold at auction.

Here’s the reassuring part: that almost never happens. We always reach out first and do our best to work things out — usually a quick phone call settles it. And if you’re simply curious how storage auctions work in general, we’ve written a plain-language primer. How storage auctions work — a primer →
