Box-n-Go Storage & Moving Services for Students

If you’re reading this, you’re probably one of two people. You’re a college student staring down a move-out date your school set for you, with nowhere to put a mattress, a desk lamp, a mini-fridge, and four months of accumulated stuff. Or you’re a parent across the country trying to figure out how this is going to work when your kid is in finals, won’t answer the phone, doesn’t have a car, can’t rent a truck because they’re not 21 yet, and the dorm staff is going to inspect the room on a specific day whether the room is empty or not.

The expensive way to solve this is for a parent to fly out, rent a car, rent a truck (you, not the student, because of the age rules), pay for a hotel, spend a weekend moving belongings to a storage unit, then fly back and do the whole thing in reverse in August. Most families do exactly that because they don’t know there’s another option.

Box-n-Go is the other option. We pick up at the student’s address — dorm room, apartment, off-campus housing. The student is there, the parent doesn’t have to be. We take belongings to our indoor warehouse and hold them as long as you need. We redeliver on a date you pick, to whatever address makes sense at that point — same apartment, new apartment, parent’s house, new city, new school. The booking happens by phone or online from anywhere in the country. The student handles the in-person part on pickup day. That’s the whole logistics summary.

The terms vary depending on who’s searching. Student storage, college storage, dorm storage, summer storage, study abroad storage, move out storage, student moving — they describe overlapping services for different audiences and different scenarios. Below is every variant grouped by what it actually means, with the details that matter to whichever person is reading.

Student Storage

Student storage is what we call the package of services Box-n-Go offers students. It comes in two operational shapes, and which one fits depends on how much you’re storing and whether there’s furniture involved. The first shape is by-the-box pickup — our team comes inside the residence, picks up boxes and loose items piece by piece, and takes them to our warehouse. No container parks at the property. This works for dorm residents and students with limited volume.

The second shape is container delivery — we drop off a Flex container at the address, the student (or a hired crew) loads it, and we transport it to our warehouse for storage. This works for apartment residents with furniture, or for groups of dorm students who share a single container. Both options include pickup, indoor storage, and redelivery at the date you specify when you book.

Student Storage Services

“Student storage services” is the umbrella search term for what’s above — the full lineup of pickup, storage, and redelivery options Box-n-Go offers students. The two shapes (by-the-box pickup and container delivery) cover both ends of the student-storage volume range. Students with three or four boxes use the by-the-box service. Students moving a fully furnished apartment use the container service. Most cases fall somewhere on that spectrum, and we’ll help you figure out which fits when you call.

Storage for College Students

“Storage for college students” is the same set of services, framed for the audience searching that exact phrase — usually parents researching options on behalf of a student. The services are identical. The framing matters only because parents and students often search using different keywords. If you landed here from a parent-facing search, the booking conversation typically involves both you and your student — we coordinate with whoever is handling the logistics on the ground.

College Storage

“College storage” is a slightly different angle on the same services, with a parent-facing tilt. When parents search “college storage” they’re usually researching the logistical question — how does this work, what does the student have to do, what do I as the parent have to do, can it all happen without me flying out. Box-n-Go’s student services are built to answer yes to that last question. The booking can happen from anywhere. The pickup happens at the student’s address (dorm, apartment, off-campus housing). The storage happens at our indoor warehouse. The redelivery happens on a date the family picks. The student handles the in-person part (being there for pickup, labeling boxes); the parent handles the logistics part (booking, payment, coordinating the calendar). No flight required.

College Storage Service

“College storage service” is the service-oriented variant of the same search. Same services, slightly different framing — the word “service” in the search usually signals that the searcher wants to know what’s actually delivered (pickup? storage? redelivery?) rather than just where to rent a storage unit. The answer for Box-n-Go: all three. We pick up at the student’s address, we store indoors at our centrally located warehouse, and we redeliver when the student is ready. No driving to a self-storage facility. No truck rental. No second logistics provider in the middle.

I want to:

Dorm Storage

Dorm storage is the variant for dorm residents specifically. Volume is usually small — boxes, bedding, a mini-fridge, maybe a small piece of furniture — and the residence usually doesn’t have parking that would fit a storage container. Our by-the-box pickup service is the right fit for most dorm storage. We come inside the dorm room, pick up items piece by piece, and take them to our warehouse. The student doesn’t need to move anything to a parking lot or down to a curb. The parent doesn’t need to be there. Pricing is by the box rather than by container size, so dorm students aren’t paying for space they don’t use.

Dorm Storage Service

“Dorm storage service” is the service-shaped search term — usually from parents looking for a fully-handled solution rather than a self-rent option. Box-n-Go’s dorm storage service handles everything except the packing itself. We bring boxes and supplies (or the student can use their own), the student packs over time at their own pace, then on pickup day our team labels, lifts, and removes the items. Items go to the indoor warehouse and stay there until the student is back on campus or moving to a new address.

Dorm Room Storage

“Dorm room storage” emphasizes the location — inside the dorm room itself. That’s where the pickup happens. Our crew comes to the room, picks up the labeled boxes and items, and carries them out. No need to move things to a hallway, a loading dock, or a parking lot. This matters because dorm move-out day at most universities is chaos — hallways full of other families’ belongings, elevators backed up, parking lots full. Doing the pickup from inside the room avoids most of that.

Storage for Dorms

“Storage for dorms” is the same dorm-resident service framed slightly differently — a search term that treats “dorms” as the audience rather than “students” or “college.” Same service, same crew, same warehouse. The dorm-specific detail that matters: every dorm has its own move-out logistics (timing, allowed entry points, parking rules), and Box-n-Go has worked with most of the major Southern California universities enough to know each one’s quirks. Ask us about your specific campus and we’ll tell you what to expect.

Summer Storage

Summer storage is the most common student-storage scenario by volume. Students move out in May when dorms close and apartment leases end, and they need somewhere for their things until they return in August or September. Box-n-Go’s summer storage handles the pickup at the end of the spring term, indoor storage at the warehouse over the summer, and redelivery at the start of the fall term. The booking can happen weeks or months in advance — May calendar fills up early, so the earlier you book the better the date options. Pricing is monthly, so students storing for three months pay less than students storing for four.

Semester Storage

“Semester storage” is storage scoped to a single semester rather than a full summer. The most common use cases: a semester abroad, a co-op or internship in another city, a leave of absence, or the gap between a December graduation and a January start at a new job. Pricing is monthly, the same as summer storage — you pay for the months you store, no minimum commitment, no penalty for storing slightly longer or shorter than originally planned. Redelivery happens on whatever date the student picks.

Move Out Storage

“Move out storage” is the variant where storage is tied to a move-out date — end of lease, end of semester, end of program — rather than to a return date. Sometimes the student knows when they’re coming back; sometimes they don’t yet. With Box-n-Go, the move-out date and the redelivery date can be set independently. We pick up on the move-out date you give us, store the items indoors at our warehouse, and redeliver whenever you call us back. The return date can change, the address can change, the volume in storage can change — all of that is fine, and none of it requires re-booking from scratch.

Why Box-n-Go?

Study Abroad Storage

Study abroad storage is for students leaving Southern California for a semester or full year overseas. The timing is different from summer storage — you’re leaving in August or January, returning in December or May or August, and the redelivery address might be different from the pickup address (new apartment, different school, parent’s house). We handle all of that. Pickup happens on a date you set before you leave. Items go into our indoor warehouse. When you come back, you call us with the redelivery address and date, and we deliver. The redelivery address doesn’t have to be the original pickup address. The redelivery date doesn’t have to be the date you originally planned — return dates change, especially for study abroad, and the storage adjusts.

Student Moving

Student moving is for students moving rather than storing. Moves out of a dorm or apartment at the end of the academic year, moves to a new apartment for the next school year, moves to a different campus, or moves home at graduation. Box-n-Go handles student moves the same way we handle other local and long-distance moves: a container gets delivered to the address, the student loads it (or we coordinate a loading crew), and we transport it to the destination. The advantage for students is the multi-day loading window — students don’t have a moving truck rental that has to be returned the same day, so loading can happen across finals week, family weekend, or however the schedule works.

College Student Moving

“College student moving” is the same service framed for the audience search term. The local moves stay within our Southern California service area on our own trucks. The long-distance moves — student moving home to another state, or moving cross-country to graduate school — go through our partner carrier network. Long-distance container moves are limited to major metro areas and are typically at a premium compared to traditional movers (containers are heavy, pricing is by weight), so we’ll quote both the container option and a traditional-mover option so the family can compare. The benefit of the container model is that nobody else touches the student’s belongings between origin and destination. The benefit of the traditional-mover model is often a lower cost. Different trade-offs.

Where do you deliver?

Los Angeles County, Orange County, and parts of Ventura, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties for local pickup. Most major Southern California universities are in that footprint, including USC, UCLA, the Cal State campuses, Pepperdine, LMU, Occidental, Caltech, the Claremont Colleges, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, and UC Santa Barbara. For long-distance student moves (moving home or to graduate school in another state), we cover the continental US through partner carriers. Call 877-269-6461 if you’re not sure whether your campus or destination is in our network.

My student is at college and I’m out of state — how does this actually work?

The booking happens between you (the parent) and Box-n-Go by phone or online. The pickup happens between Box-n-Go and your student at the student’s address. The student needs to be there for the pickup window — they label items, point out what goes and what stays, and let our crew in. You don’t need to be there. Payment is on file. Pickup date, redelivery date, and any scope changes go through whoever is handling logistics for the family — it can be you, your student, or both of you on the call.

Can the container go on campus?

Sometimes. Campus policies vary. Some universities allow Box-n-Go containers on campus during specific move-out windows; others require curbside pickup at a designated drop-off point; a few don’t allow containers on campus at all and we work from the nearest legal location. The dorm storage by-the-box service is the workaround when containers aren’t allowed — our crew comes in on foot with carts and removes items by hand. Tell us your campus when you call and we’ll let you know what’s possible.

When do you redeliver?

Whenever you tell us. The redelivery date is set when you book the pickup, but it can change. Students decide to take a gap year, change schools, stay over for a summer internship, or move to a different city — we adjust the redelivery date as the plan changes. There’s no penalty for changing the date and no penalty for storing longer than originally planned. Pricing is monthly; you pay for the months you store.

What Our Customers Think

How does pricing differ between the by-the-box service and the container service?

By-the-box (A La Carte Valet) is priced per box stored — you pay for the items you actually have in storage, no minimum container size. This usually works out cheaper for dorm residents storing limited volume. Container service (Self-Load Flex) is priced per container per month. This usually works out cheaper for apartment residents with furniture and larger volumes. We’ll quote both when you call and tell you honestly which one fits your situation better.

What if our return date changes?

Tell us the new date and we adjust. There’s no fee to change the redelivery date, no fee to extend storage, no fee to shorten storage. Students’ plans change constantly — gap years, summer internships, study abroad extensions, transfers — and the storage adapts. The only thing we ask for is reasonable notice on the new date (typically a week or two for routine redeliveries; longer for high-demand windows like late August).

What if my student decides to take a gap year or stay longer?

Storage continues at the same monthly rate. No annual contract, no penalty for extending, no requirement to come retrieve belongings by a specific date. Items stay indoors at the warehouse for as long as needed. Pricing is monthly — you pay for the months you store. When the student is ready, call us with the new redelivery date and address and we’ll deliver.
