Box-n-Go Storage Services

You searched for storage and ended up here. Maybe you searched for self storage, portable storage, pod storage, storage units, storage lockers, or one of the dozen other terms people use — they all describe storage, but they don’t all describe the same kind of storage. Some are different names for the same thing; some are genuinely different services for different situations. Below, we explain each one — what it is, when it fits, and how we do it — so you can tell whether the storage you’re looking for is the kind we provide. The basic shape is the same across most of what’s below: we deliver a sturdy weatherproof container to your address, you load it on your schedule, and we either pick it up and store it at our centrally located indoor warehouse or leave it on your property. When you want your things back, we redeliver. Container access at our warehouse is by appointment, ground-level, no extra charge.

Self Storage

Our centrally located warehouse functions as a self storage facility. You rent space, your things go inside, you have access when you need them. The thing that sets us apart from a conventional self storage facility is how access works. At most self-storage facilities, you’re carrying your boxes up ramps or into elevators, navigating long corridors, dealing with units stacked on a second or third floor. With us, every container we store at the warehouse is brought down to ground level for your access appointment, parked at a drive-up bay, and you load or unload like you’re unloading a truck in your driveway. No stairs, no elevators, no corridor cart trips. The drive-up access is included — no upcharge for ground-level service, no premium for the convenience.

Storage Units

Most people use “storage unit” as the generic term for whatever room or container they’re renting to store their things. Traditional self storage calls a numbered room a unit. Portable storage calls a delivered container a unit. We use the term both ways. Our storage units are 8′ × 5′ containers — when stored at the warehouse, they’re organized in indoor aisles with ground-level access points. Each one is its own unit, accessed by appointment, with your own lock and your own key. Search for “storage units” and you’ll find traditional self storage facilities and portable storage companies side by side; we’re the latter, with the convenience of delivery and the option of on-site storage.

Storage Lockers

Some customers call self-storage rooms “lockers” — usually from the way school lockers and gym lockers work, where each person has a small secured space. Our smallest container is closer in size to a true storage locker than to a full self-storage room — it’s 8′ × 5′, sized for a portion of a household rather than a whole house. But the security on our lockers is structural, not just a padlock and a thin metal door. Each container is sturdy plywood construction, weighing about 750 pounds empty, with your own lock on the door, stored indoors at our monitored warehouse. If you’re looking for a small, secure place for a few rooms’ worth of belongings, our lockers fit that description.

Storage Vaults

The older end of the moving and storage industry calls wooden storage containers “vaults.” It’s an accurate description of what our containers actually are — heavy-duty wood construction, lockable, designed to keep belongings secure for months or years. Each one weighs about 750 pounds empty before anything goes inside. They’re built to be stacked safely with belongings inside, transported on our specialized equipment, and stored indoors at our centrally located warehouse. If you’re working with a relocation specialist or an estate executor who uses the word “vault,” we’re the same thing — a sturdy wooden storage container, stored indoors, accessed by appointment.

Drive Up Storage

Drive-up storage at most self-storage facilities means a unit you can drive your car or truck up to without having to navigate stairs, elevators, or hallway carts. It’s usually a premium feature — a separate row of ground-level units that cost more per month than the upstairs units. With us, every container we store at the warehouse gets drive-up access at your appointment. We bring the container to the ground-level access point, you drive up, load or unload like you’re working a moving truck in your own driveway. There’s no upcharge for it and no “ground floor” vs “second floor” pricing difference, because we don’t store containers stacked on customer-accessible floors — we retrieve and stage them for each appointment.

Indoor Storage

All Box-n-Go warehouse storage is indoors. That’s worth saying out loud because a lot of storage facilities advertise “indoor storage” as a premium feature compared to outdoor unit rows. We don’t have outdoor units. Every container we store at our warehouse is inside the building — protected from rain, dust, direct sun, wind, and the temperature extremes of outdoor parking. If you’re comparing storage options and indoor versus outdoor is a deciding factor, every container we store qualifies as indoor storage.

Secure Storage

Security at our warehouse runs through several layers. Containers are stored indoors in a monitored facility with controlled access — no public walk-through, no random people in aisles where customer containers are stored. Each container is locked by the customer with their own padlock and key, and the warehouse staff doesn’t hold copies. The containers themselves are heavy plywood construction, around 750 pounds empty, not easy to break into or move without specialized equipment. For most household and business storage, this combination of structural container, customer-only lock, and monitored indoor warehouse provides the kind of security most customers want. For high-value items (valuable artwork, large jewelry collections, irreplaceable archives), call to discuss whether our security is the right match or whether you need specialized high-value storage.

Portable Storage

Portable storage is our core service and the reason most customers find us. We deliver a storage container to your address. You load it on your schedule, taking as many days as you need. We pick it up and either store it at our warehouse or leave it on your property — your choice. When you’re ready to retrieve your belongings, we redeliver to the same address, a new address across town, or a new address across the country. Portable storage cuts out the drive-to-a-facility step that traditional self storage forces you into. Your storage comes to you, sits where you need it, and goes where you want it.

Mobile Storage

Mobile storage and portable storage are mostly two names for the same service. Some companies and customers draw a distinction — portable storage refers to the larger containers, mobile storage to smaller ones — but in practice they describe the same model: storage that comes to you, gets loaded at your address, and either stays on your property or moves to a secure warehouse. Whichever term you searched, the approach saves you the time and money of renting a truck and driving to a self-storage facility. You load once, at your home or business, and we handle the rest.

Pod Storage

A lot of people call portable storage containers “pods.” That’s the brand that made the concept a household name — PODS, which stands for Portable On Demand Storage. PODS Enterprises, Inc. holds the trademark. We’re not PODS and we’re not affiliated with them. If you specifically searched for PODS the brand and that’s what you want, we’re not them. If you searched for “pod storage” meaning a storage container delivered to your house — that’s what we do, and we do it across Southern California with a different equipment design, a different size range, and a different operational model. Both PODS and Box-n-Go fit the “pod storage” description; the differences are in the details.

On-Site Storage

With portable storage, you choose where the container lives between the load and the unload. Some customers prefer to keep the container on their own property — driveway, parking lot, side yard, business lot — instead of having it transported to our warehouse. We call that on-site storage. It’s the same container, the same lock, the same belongings; you just skip the warehouse step. On-site storage works well for renovations (the container stays in the driveway for the duration of construction), short-term staging (containers parked while you sort through what to keep and what to donate), and contractors who need a secure on-site storage point for tools and materials. The container is engineered for outdoor use — weatherproof, ground-level, and lockable.

I want to:

Business Storage

Storage built for business customers. Commercial accounts have different needs than residential — predictable delivery schedules so employees aren’t pulled away from their jobs, access patterns that fit business hours, the ability to scale storage up or down as inventory or office space needs change, and lower employee injury risk because employees aren’t loading boxes onto rental trucks or carrying them up self-storage ramps. We deliver containers to your business, your team loads on a schedule that fits operations, and we handle storage and retrieval. Retail seasonal overflow, office relocations between leases, restaurant equipment between locations, contractor materials — all fit business storage.

File Storage

Our file storage service is built for small and medium businesses with paper records — accounting files, client records, archived documents, legal files, insurance records. A single container holds roughly 50 to 60 file boxes, which covers years of records for most small businesses. If you don’t have enough volume to fill a container, we can store individual file boxes at our warehouse — pricing scales by volume rather than forcing you into a full container. Call for current per-box pricing on small-volume file storage; container-volume file storage is priced like any other container.

Military Storage

Service members and military families face storage situations civilian customers don’t — PCS moves on short notice, deployment timelines that don’t align with conventional storage contracts, family relocations to new bases. We offer discounts and timeline flexibility for active-duty service members and their families. Ask about military pricing when you call; we have an active discount for verified service members and we can structure storage around deployment and PCS schedules with month-to-month flexibility rather than locked contracts.

Climate Controlled Storage

Worth being clear about what this means at Box-n-Go. Traditional “climate-controlled” storage at self-storage facilities is a refrigerated or air-conditioned unit, typically held in a narrow temperature band (often 55–80°F) with an upcharge — sometimes 50% to 100% more per month than non-climate-controlled. Our warehouse isn’t refrigerated like that. What we do have is an indoor warehouse with thick walls, an insulated roof, and a building full of stacked wooden containers that act as thermal mass — the inside temperature stays significantly more stable than outdoor temperature, well within the range that protects most household goods, electronics, furniture, leather, paper records, and photos. It’s cool in summer, warm in winter, and not subject to the rapid swings that damage belongings in an outdoor unit or attic. We don’t charge extra for it — this is just how our storage works. If your belongings need true refrigerated storage (wine, certain pharmaceuticals, very heat-sensitive electronics, etc.), we’re not the right fit and we’ll tell you so.

Furniture Storage

Furniture storage is one of the most common reasons customers store with us. Couches, beds, dressers, dining sets, armoires, large rugs, mattresses, headboards — all of it fits into our containers. The container loading process matters here: furniture stored at the wrong angle, or stacked under heavy boxes, or pressed against other furniture without padding, can be damaged in storage. Our team can advise on loading approach if you’re unsure, or you can engage our full-service loading (see Full Service Storage below) and have the crew handle furniture loading professionally. Furniture stays inside the locked container at our indoor warehouse for the duration of storage — no exposure to weather, no rough handling, and the climate-stable warehouse environment helps preserve leather, wood, and upholstery over long-term storage.

Appliance Storage

Refrigerators, washers, dryers, dishwashers, freezers, ranges — large appliances. Most appliances store fine in a regular container as long as a few details are handled before loading: refrigerators and freezers need to be defrosted and dried out completely (a wet appliance in a sealed container is a mold problem waiting to happen), washers and dryers need to be drained, and exterior surfaces should be wiped down. We can store appliances individually at the warehouse if you don’t have enough volume for a full container, or alongside household goods in a regular container if you do. For long-term appliance storage, the climate-stable warehouse environment matters — appliances stored in outdoor units in Southern California sun deteriorate faster than appliances stored indoors.

Long-Term Storage

Long-term storage covers needs measured in months to years. Indefinite long-term storage is fine — no maximum term applies and no contract forces you out. Common situations: military deployment, long-distance work assignment, estate storage while families sort through belongings, business records retention, archived inventory, RV-related belongings while the rig is on the road. For multi-year storage, the indoor warehouse environment matters more than for short-term — the same climate-stable warehouse described above protects belongings from temperature swings, moisture, and outdoor exposure that would damage them over time. Pricing for long-term is the same monthly rate as short-term; we don’t inflate per-month pricing the longer you store.

Why Box-n-Go?

Short-Term Storage

Short-term storage covers needs measured in weeks to a few months, often tied to a specific project or transition. No minimum term applies — you don’t get charged for time you don’t use. Common situations: a between-houses gap of 30 to 60 days, summer storage for college students, renovations, restoration work after a fire or water damage, an oversized item that needs a temporary home, construction projects that need belongings out of the way. We can deliver and retrieve on short notice within our Southern California service area.

Temporary Storage

Sometimes the storage need is short — a few weeks to a few months — and a long-term storage commitment doesn’t make sense. Renovations are the most common case (your contractor needs the rooms cleared for two months while floors get redone), but there are plenty of others: between-house gaps when the new place isn’t ready, downsizing while you decide what stays and what goes, insurance claims while damaged contents are being processed, college kids home for summer with stuff that won’t fit in the dorm next year. We don’t require a minimum term, so temporary storage is priced the same way any other storage is — by the month, with prorated billing when you’re ready to retrieve your belongings.

Restoration Storage

Restoration contractors handle fire, water, smoke, and mold remediation projects. While the structure is being restored, the contents need to be packed out, stored, and returned when the project is complete. We work directly with restoration contractors and insurance-funded restoration projects. Our containers are sized for everything from a single-room pack-out to a full household contents storage during a major fire restoration. We coordinate scheduling with restoration project managers so containers arrive when the pack-out crew is ready and return when the structure is cleared for re-occupancy. Restoration storage is invoiced through the restoration contractor or directly to the insurance claim depending on how the project is structured.

Construction / Remodeling Storage

When you’re remodeling — a kitchen renovation, a floor replacement, a full addition — your household goods need to be somewhere out of the way during construction. Construction storage is exactly that. A container gets delivered to your driveway and stays there for the duration of the project, or we transport it to our warehouse if you’d rather not have a container parked in front of your house for three months. The container holds the rooms’ worth of furniture and contents that need to leave the construction zone, lockable and weatherproof, accessible to you if you need something out of it mid-project. When construction finishes, you load everything back in and we pick up the empty container — or we redeliver from the warehouse and you reload.

Oversized Items Storage

If you have an oversized item that doesn’t fit into a standard storage unit — a custom-built couch, a built-in refrigerator, a baby grand piano, large fitness equipment, an oversized appliance — we can still handle it. Some items go into a container along with the rest of your household goods; others get stored individually at the warehouse without going inside a container at all. The deciding factor is the dimensions and shape of the item versus our container interior dimensions. Call us with the item you’re trying to store and we’ll tell you whether it fits inside a container or whether we need to store it as an oversized standalone item.

Full Service Storage

Sometimes you don’t want to do the loading yourself. You’re too busy, you’re recovering from surgery, you have small kids, you’re moving an elderly parent — there are lots of reasons. Full service storage means we handle the loading along with the storage. We have an exclusive arrangement with MyMovingGuys, a licensed California moving company (Cal-T 0191190), that lets us coordinate full-service loading along with the storage. We deliver the container; their crew shows up, packs your belongings or loads what you’ve already packed, and we transport the container to storage. When you’re ready to unload, the same crew can return at the destination. One transaction, one schedule, one point of coordination.

Valet Storage Service

Valet storage is an item-by-item pickup service rather than a container service. Instead of getting a container delivered for you to load, our crew comes inside your home, picks up boxes and loose items piece by piece, and takes them to our warehouse. This works well when the volume is small (a few rooms of items rather than a full household), when the customer can’t load themselves, or when no container can fit on the property. We offer this on a limited basis, primarily for student customers in dorms and apartments where parking a container isn’t an option. Parents don’t have to fly in to help with move-out because we handle the pickup inside the residence.
