Storage Near LMU | LMU Student Storage Solutions

Five days is the usual run: the last final, the hall cleared by the weekend, then LAX. It is not much time to empty a room in Del Rey or Desmond, carry it down off the bluff, and still make the gate. Storage near LMU is what most students do with the middle of that week. LMU student storage by the box is what they do when there is no car to load, and LMU summer storage booked before finals takes the whole problem off the list. Loyola Marymount University was founded in 1911 and has been up on this bluff since the end of the twenties, above Marina del Rey and Silicon Beach. Being up there is the whole of the pleasure and, for one week in May, the whole of the problem.

Storage Near LMU, and the Five Days It Has To Fit Into

Housing sets the clearing date and it does not move. Leases in Westchester and Playa del Rey turn over on their own calendar, usually with weeks of daylight between the two. A room that leaves in May and returns at the end of August is out of the way for three months and more, and summer storage for students follows that cycle end to end.

Everyone on the bluff hits that week together, and the bluff is the complication. There is one way down with a loaded car, the traffic is Los Angeles traffic, and the nearest storage is off campus in one direction or another. It is one of the more awkward move-outs in Southern California for a student without a vehicle.

In one minute, I'm going to tell you about a great solution to all your moving and storage needs that you probably haven't heard before. It's a totally new way to improve your moving or storage experience, and it only takes a few minutes to do.

If you're moving or storing items, you have to get a truck, load the truck, and unload the truck again, so many steps. But if you go to this place I'm going to tell you about, there's no need to rent a truck. It's a free pickup, and not only that, you pick the delivery time. On top of that, you save 50% of the cost, because you load only once. You take as long as you need to pack, and you only pay according to the space you use.

Okay, the place is called Box-n-Go Storage, and they serve the Greater Los Angeles area: Long Beach, Orange County, Riverside County, San Bernardino, and Ventura. And the most important thing to remember is that you get free protection coverage on your items, and there are no hidden fees.

So what are you waiting for? Get on over to boxngo.com and save yourself a ton of time, work, and aggravation.

A Unit in Inglewood, and the Run Made Twice

Renting a unit is the obvious answer and it is where most people start. The nearest ones sit in Inglewood or down toward the South Bay, so it means a lease signed for three months, gate hours learned, and the whole run made twice, once in May and once in August.

The parent version costs more. Flights into LAX run at peak-season fares in that week, with a hotel in Westchester or Playa Vista on top of them. Renting a truck to haul furniture from Del Rey or Doheny halls down to a storage facility means Los Angeles traffic and move-out-week rates. It is a bill that arrives every single year of college.

Nothing Leaves the Bluff on Your Back

None of that arises here, because the pickup and the delivery are scheduled against the semester. There is no truck to book, no facility to find and no family flight to arrange, because LMU storage from Box-n-Go runs to the academic calendar rather than a rental one. We come to your room or apartment, take what is in it, keep it in an indoor facility through the summer, and deliver it back for fall move-in or to wherever you live next. Why Box-n-Go Storage and Moving explains the problem the service was built to solve.

Self-Load Flex Container: Apartments Below the Bluff

A yellow Box-n-Go container on its trailer being moved into place on a paved plaza in front of a parking structure, delivered for LMU summer storage.
A container set down on the plaza and moved into place by the crew.

If you are moving out of an apartment with furniture in it, the Self-Load Flex container is the one to take. It is built for the apartments in Westchester and Playa del Rey, where the furniture is yours and the only road down the hill with it is the one everybody else is using that week. The 8' x 5' x 7' container is set down at the building, or at the parking lot the university assigns for containers. The window on campus is short: it arrives about four days before move-out and is collected by the Monday after it. The lot is not the same one every year, so check the current one with Housing. It stays on the ground the whole way through, so there is no ramp, no loading dock and nothing special to operate. Container Sizes, Weight Limits and Loading has the inside measurements and the weight it will take.

You load it yourself, over as many days as you need. In a week with no spare hours that is the whole difference. Pack properly, load when you can, and avoid the scramble of one moving day. Once it is loaded, the container is collected and stored indoors. In the fall the container is delivered to wherever you have moved, on your say-so. That is where the bed frame, the desk, the chairs and the boxes that go with them end up.

A forklift carrying a covered Box-n-Go container down a narrow service alley between two buildings, setting down LMU storage at the loading point.
A parking structure runs down one side, and the alley is barely wider than the container.

Roommates often share one container and divide the bill. Anyone who would rather not carry it can hire loading help.

A La Carte Valet, Charged by the Box in 90045

A dorm room and a shorter list are what A La Carte Valet is for: full-service storage near 90045 charged by the box. You pay for what you actually store, which suits five to fifteen boxes plus lamps, fans and personal electronics.
Packing tape, a marker and five Box-n-Go U Boxes reach you in the mail ahead of the pickup, and more boxes follow on request. If you would rather use boxes you already have, that works too, and the kit can be trimmed before it is sent.

These boxes are built for a student summer rather than bought at a hardware store: the cardboard is heavier and the flaps overlap the whole way across. That construction earns its keep, because a student box is stacked and left for three months rather than carried across a room and put down.

A flat cart loaded with labeled cartons and duffel bags standing beside a white pickup truck with bicycles in the bed, booked for storage 90045 collection.
Three duffel bags ride on top of the boxes, one cart load out to the truck.

Pack across several days, then book the pickup when it suits you. The crew comes up to the room, tags every item to your account, carries it down to the truck and takes it to an indoor facility.

A La Carte handles more than boxes. Furniture, a bike, a mini-fridge and a desk chair all count. The charge is per box, so the bill comes to what you actually stored and nothing more. Student storage near Loyola Marymount University is priced the same whether the room is a single or a shared double, because what is charged is the count and not the floor space. It suits a first-year whose family is three time zones away and would otherwise be booking a flight to carry boxes down a staircase. Del Rey, Desmond and Whelan each set their own rule about what may be left in a room, and dorm room storage covers what a residence hall will and will not allow.

The Other Reasons a Room Leaves the Bluff

June to Late August, With Rent Running

The lease is up in June and the next one does not begin until late August. That is close to three months of rent on a room nobody is in, and a short let at short-let rates costs more again. The room sits in storage for the gap and arrives when the new lease does.

A Semester Overseas, From the Bluff

Sending a room overseas costs more than the room is worth, and holding an empty Westchester lease while you are away costs more again. Everything waits indoors for the length of the program, and the delivery moves with your return date.

A Summer Spent Living Somewhere Else

A summer internship means a season in another city, usually in housing that came furnished and has no room for your own desk. Wherever the placement is, what is here stays stored until you get back.

The Bluff, and What Is Around It

Labeled cartons stacked in a residence corridor beside a black microwave, with a student seated on a chair alongside, waiting for storage units 90045 collection.
Boxes and a microwave staged in the corridor, tagged for collection.

Wherever a room goes for the summer, it starts in the same place. LMU sits on a bluff above the Westside with the airport on one side and the water on the other. Marina del Rey is ten minutes down the hill, the Playa Vista offices everyone calls Silicon Beach are closer than that, and Dockweiler State Beach runs along the bottom of the runway approach, with the Ballona Wetlands in between. It is a short list of places and every one of them is downhill. That is the part that matters in May, when everything a student owns has to come down the hill and none of it goes back up until the end of August.

Self Storage Around 90045, If You Would Rather Rent

Box-n-Go serves the entire 90045 area including LMU and the neighborhoods around it. If you would rather rent, these are the self storage 90045 options around Westchester. Each of them asks you to transport your belongings yourself, in both directions, and to sign a monthly contract:

Students and Families on Using Box-n-Go

★★★★★

"Amazing service. I used Box-n-Go for college storage. They were flexible; customer service was helpful and friendly. I'd recommend them for anyone who needs storage."

- Max U., Denver, CO

★★★★★

"Box-n-Go is a very easy service to use. I am a student in Claremont, but I live in Arizona and it is such a hassle to transport all of my belongings back and forth over the summer. Most of my stuff does not even need to go home for the summer. I've seen the Box-n-Go storage containers all over campus but I never wanted to rent one. I thought that it would be a long and expensive process. But it's not. Box-n-Go is a very easy service to use. It was not hard at all to make a reservation for a storage container to be dropped off on campus. And the price was not bad either, especially if you share a box with some friends, because they are very spacious! Tip for college students using this service: you probably won't need a whole container to yourself, so share with friends, split the cost, and that will make the service that much cheaper!"

- Alexa M., Claremont, CA

★★★★★

"As a student, I value this BoxNGo Santa Monica storage unit for offering a dependable, secure, and safe space to keep my belongings when I am traveling."

- Lara B.

★★★★★

"Makes it easy and affordable. We chose Box-n-Go for our sons move out of his college apt. They are picking up and storing his belongings for a summer and then fall semester when he is studying abroad. Makes it easy and affordable. No worries!"

- Lisa R., Los Angeles, CA - Parent

What Our Customers Think

With any storage facility, my concerns are, number one, safety and theft of my items, how well are they going to be cared for? Are they going to be damaged, shaken around, especially in a pod? Then also ease of access, it's not like a roll-up-door storage locker where you can just go and get in; it has to be brought out. And I thought, boy, all that moving around, it's going to be a wreck. And cost, and so on. And then, working with the people there, how easy is that going to be?

I was very pleased with the service. When I first packed up, I didn't order enough pods, and here I am in the middle of moving, on a deadline, I have to fly out across the Pacific, so it's not like I can wait around. I needed more pods. They delivered me more pods on the spot, and I packed them up.

Over the years, and I've been here quite a few years, because I moved from the mainland to Hawaii, and now from Hawaii to Panama, I've had these storage lockers for years. I went from four to three, three to two, and now two to one. Every time I've had to come here or contact them, they're Johnny-on-the-spot, so accommodating. When I call in to make my payments, I almost feel like I work here now, because I know everybody so well. They're very understanding and easy to work with.

I've had other storage lockers, this is the best experience I've ever had. That's why I've been here so long. My kids are already saying they're going to use Box-n-Go when they move. You don't think your stuff's going to be in storage that long, but it is. And with all the ins and outs of the pods, nothing has ever been damaged. Not one thing. So I'm very pleased. Very pleased.

If you're going to be out of state, your stuff's secure, it's taken care of, it's not deteriorating. We had a leather saddle in there for years, I said to my husband, it's going to be full of mold, even your shoes get moldy when they're locked up. We took it out, it's perfect. It's temperature controlled, all of it. I couldn't be happier. I would definitely recommend them. I have recommended them.

This was the first time I was renting storage. My first concerns were: where was the storage place, and was it safe? I'm putting all my valuables and keepsakes, things that are really important to me, so it was really important that they felt safe, that the company was a real company I trusted. Also the cost, how much was it going to be? I didn't want to have to worry, while I'm out traveling, about being hit with all these fees on top of it, or weird things. So those were the main concerns.

What surprised me the most, there are so many things I could say, but I guess just how easy it was. I had no idea. The whole process was very easy. When I moved everything, the box came to me, I put everything in there, it was just so simple and affordable. And then even getting into my storage: because I decided to keep traveling a little bit longer, it was super easy just to drop in, take stuff out or put some in. It was just so easy. And I felt very safe. So it totally blew my expectations of what I thought storage would be, because it's just been very pleasant.

I recommend them all the time to many people, mostly because I feel safe, I feel like my storage is in a safe place, and just because of how easy and affordable this whole process has been.

When I first called Box-n-Go, I spoke to Frank, and he was very thorough with the information I needed, sizes, prices and rates, the contract based on the number of months, any specials. I thought, wow, he's giving me everything; I'm not really having to ask. I liked that a lot, the information was provided up front. I told him I'd take everything, look through it, do some research, and come back to him. But I pretty much knew everything he'd said made sense, and I felt really comfortable with him. He was oriented toward good customer service, just on point. I had nothing in my mind that said I wanted to look any further.

I did some searches and Box-n-Go came up. I'd talked to some other people before, but when I got to Box-n-Go I was just like, "You know what? I've made my decision." I had no hesitation about going with anyone else.

The container came to my home, and it was exactly the size I thought it was, no surprises, no "this is too big, this is too small." I put everything in it, it got picked up, everything was on schedule, exactly as Frank had said. I was definitely pleased.

I really liked working with Frank. He was my point person the whole time I had my storage. I'd call him, he remembered me, and he made every attempt to be on point with everything. When I'd come to the storage facility to check on things, take some out, put some in, he was always there, friendly. And there were the two Stans; customer service was great, the warehouse guys were great. Everyone was friendly, no one was rude, no one was lost or disappeared. They helped me move stuff in, they helped me move stuff out. It was great, even though I was taking my stuff out of storage.

I would recommend them to everyone. So kudos to Frank, the two Stans, the warehouse guys, and Box-n-Go in general.

Where Move-Out Breaks Down Every Year

Every year, move-out breaks down at the same few points. The damage nearly always comes from four sources: food, liquids, mini-fridges and open toiletries. If you have never packed for storage before, Getting Started: How to Prep for Your Moving or Storage covers the ground rules. Below is the list every student works from when the hall clears.

  • Keep every box under fifty pounds. Overloaded boxes are unsafe to lift and collapse when stacked.
  • Nothing that pours, nothing that spoils. Shampoo, detergent, half-finished drinks and anything sealed in the pantry all find a way out in a warm truck. Tape the lids, bag them, or leave them behind.
  • Defrost the mini-fridge a day before pickup. Then clean and dry it, and clean the microwave. A fridge packed damp comes back smelling of what was in it.
  • Label all sides of every box. Student name, a phone number, and where it is going. Boxes are stacked, and the top is the one face nobody can read.
  • Trash bags are dust covers, not luggage. Never let one carry weight. Roll mattress toppers rather than folding them, and bag them.
  • Pad anything breakable and mark it fragile. Wrap each piece individually. Nothing loose rattling in drawers.
  • Photograph the inside of each box before taping it. It takes a second and it is the only inventory anybody actually keeps.
  • Keep passport, medication, laptop and chargers with you. Nothing needed in the next few days goes into storage.

Open the printable student storage move-out checklist several days before the pickup, not on the last evening. It is short by design, and it is what stands between the warehouse and a leaking shampoo bottle, a damp mini-fridge or a box nobody labeled, and it is what keeps a parent from having to fly in.

Questions From Students on the Bluff

These come up every May.

What happens if I don't move out by the deadline?

Housing sets that, and the terms sit in your housing agreement rather than with us. The way to keep it from mattering is to book the pickup ahead of the clearing date, and to tell us if that date shifts.

What's the difference between valet storage and self-load storage?

Valet storage (also called full-service or by-the-box storage) means a crew comes to your room, picks up your packed items, and handles all transportation. Self-load storage means a container is delivered to your location and you load it yourself. Valet is more convenient; self-load is often more economical for larger amounts.

A yellow Box-n-Go container standing in a fenced lot with a white pickup truck parked behind it, storage near LMU waiting to be collected.
A container staged in the lot beside the truck that will collect it.

What happens if something is damaged or lost?

Basic protection coverage comes with the booking, and Box-n-Go Protection Plans and Damage Waivers sets out what it covers and what a higher plan adds. File a claim promptly if you discover damage. For valuable items, consider adding premium protection coverage when booking.

What if I extend my program?

Storage runs month to month, so if you stay abroad longer than you planned, tell us and the storage period extends with you. You pay for the time you actually use.

How do I contact Box-n-Go?

Call 877-269-6461 or visit boxngo.com. You can reserve storage, schedule pickup, and manage your account online.

How do I know my student's items are secure?

Your things are held in a monitored indoor warehouse behind gated access and cameras, not in a yard, and each student's items are kept together in their own vault rather than loose on a shelf.

Book the Pickup Before the Hall Clears

Book it before finals week rather than in the middle of it. Demand peaks as the semester ends, and booking early is what gets you the pickup time you want. An apartment takes Self-Load, a room on the bluff takes A La Carte, and there is not much more to decide.
