UC Irvine storage is a June problem before it is anything else. By the last week of the quarter a room in Mesa Court or Middle Earth is a stack against one wall: the mini-fridge, a desk chair somebody inherited, a bike, and three quarters of books nobody is shipping home. Housing empties, leases in Irvine turn over, and several thousand students need somewhere to leave a room's worth of belongings for the summer. Between them the two hold most of the first years on campus. Middle Earth is not a nickname: the halls are named for places in Tolkien, from Rivendell and Mirkwood to the Shire, and the two newest towers are Telperion and Laurelin. A student in a Mesa Court tower or in one of those halls has the same problem either way: getting a room's worth of belongings across Irvine without a vehicle.
Irvine was laid out for cars, so a student without one is buying somebody else's afternoon as well as a unit, and in the week Mesa Court and Middle Earth empty nobody has an afternoon to sell. A seat into John Wayne that week is priced for that week. Between the flight, the truck and the first month on a unit, a family spends more getting the room into storage than the storage will cost all summer.
Timed to the Quarter, Not to a Rental Calendar

Reasons Other Than the Summer Break
The June Lease and the September One
An Irvine lease ends in June and the next one does not start until September. Three months of rent on an empty room, or a sublet at sublet prices, both cost more than storing the room does. Store it through the gap and have it delivered on the day the new lease starts.
Away for a Quarter or a Year

An internship or a co-op placement runs the length of a summer, and the sublet at the other end usually came furnished, which leaves nowhere for your own desk to go. Whether the work is in San Francisco, Seattle or anywhere between, what is here stays here until it ends.
A Final Quarter With Nowhere Named Yet
A search can end anywhere, and signing a lease before the offer lands is a gamble. Take the pickup date from housing and leave the delivery open until the plans are fixed. It goes wherever you end up.
When Home Is Too Far to Drive To
Taking a room home for the summer is rarely practical for an international student. Keeping it here costs less than buying the same lamp and the same fridge again in September. With no car and no family nearby, the pickup and the delivery are the point of it.

The Packing List Every Room Here Works From
Move-out fails in the same handful of places year after year. Nearly all of it comes down to the same short list: food, liquids, mini-fridges and toiletries left open. What follows is the list every student works from when a room has to be emptied.
- Keep every box under fifty pounds. Overloaded boxes are unsafe to lift and collapse when stacked.
- Nothing that pours, nothing that spoils. Shampoo, detergent, half-finished drinks and anything sealed in the pantry all find a way out in a warm truck. Tape the lids, bag them, or leave them behind.
- Defrost the mini-fridge a day before pickup. Then clean and dry it, and clean the microwave. A fridge packed damp comes back smelling of what was in it.
- Label all sides of every box. Student name, a phone number, and where it is going. Boxes are stacked, and the top is the one face nobody can read.
- Trash bags are dust covers, not luggage. Never let one carry weight. Roll mattress toppers rather than folding them, and bag them.
- Pad anything breakable and mark it fragile. Wrap each piece individually. Nothing loose rattling in drawers.
- Photograph the inside of each box before taping it. It takes a second and it is the only inventory anybody actually keeps.
- Keep passport, medication, laptop and chargers with you. Nothing needed in the next few days goes into storage.
The printable student storage move-out checklist is worth opening several days out, not at eleven the night before. The list is deliberately brief. It exists to keep a leaking shampoo bottle, a damp mini-fridge and an unlabeled box away from the warehouse, and to keep a parent from booking a flight.

What happens if I don't move out by the deadline?
That is between you and UCI Housing, and the terms are in your housing contract rather than with us. Book the pickup for the day before the close date and it does not arise. If the date moves, tell us and we move with it.
Is short-term storage available for students?
Yes. Many students use short-term storage for a few weeks or months during housing transitions, internships, or summer break. Month-to-month options provide flexibility.
Should I store my mattress or mattress topper?
You can store mattress toppers: roll them tightly and place in a plastic bag to keep clean and dry. Standard dorm mattresses belong to the university and should not be removed. If you have your own mattress (off-campus), use a mattress bag.
What forms of payment do you accept?
All major credit cards.
What if I want to store my items longer than the summer?
No problem. Box-n-Go can store your belongings for as long as you require. Many students store year-round while studying abroad or during housing transitions.
What if my student needs something from storage during the summer?
