Storage Near Cal State Fullerton | CSUF Student Storage

California State University, Fullerton has been in North Orange County since 1957, close enough to Disneyland and to Huntington Beach that four years here are spent largely outdoors. It is residents and commuters both, and that mix decides how the year ends. For most Titans the date that empties a room is a Fullerton lease date rather than a housing date, and it lands within a few days of the last exam more often than not. CSUF student storage is what fills the space between the two: one pickup when the room has to be empty, one delivery when there is somewhere to put it again. Storage near Cal State Fullerton is that same stretch with no truck and no free Saturday in it.

Four years here happen mostly off campus. The Fullerton Arboretum is a walk from a lecture and Downtown Fullerton is a walk from that, but the apartment is in Brea or Placentia and the parking permit is the first thing a Titan buys. That is what makes the last week different here. A campus where everyone commutes does not empty from a loading dock. It empties from two hundred driveways across North Orange County, on the day each of those leases happens to end.

Why CSUF Students Need Storage Near Cal State Fullerton

Move-out here is not a choice anybody makes. Housing sets a fixed date for the residence halls, and a Fullerton lease usually runs out well before the fall term starts, so most Titans are out of the room within days of the last exam either way. Storage near CSUF is the part of that week people arrange last and need first, and what they are really after is somebody else doing the driving.

The two dates rarely line up, and the gap between them is the problem. Finals want the whole week, and the room has to be packed in the same few days. Plenty of Titans are from outside California, and shipping a room home in May and back in August costs more than storing it here. The gap between spring move-out and fall move-in runs three or four months, and holding an empty apartment across it costs more than storing the room does.

On top of that, you save 50% of the cost, because you load only once. You take as long as you need to pack, and you only pay according to the space you use.

Okay, the place is called Box-n-Go Storage, and they serve the Greater Los Angeles area: Long Beach, Orange County, Riverside County, San Bernardino, and Ventura. And the most important thing to remember is that you get free protection coverage on your items, and there are no hidden fees.

The Traditional CSUF Storage Experience

Parents fly in for the weekend because there is nobody else to lift the couch. A student without a car has to borrow one, and then borrow it again in August. Both of those trips are what college storage Fullerton students book to avoid. The unit itself is the smallest part of it: renting the truck, loading it, driving it, unloading it into the unit, and doing the whole thing backwards in the fall is two days of work in the two weeks that have none to spare.

A storage near Cal State Fullerton unit parked in a covered area with stairs visible.
A container standing under the covered walkway near the stairs.

Orange County prices apply to storage too. A unit big enough for apartment furniture is quoted by the month, and the monthly rate is the smaller half of it: the truck rental, the insurance, the gas and a weekend inside finals week are the rest. For a family flying in from Northern California or out of state, the flight, the rental car and two nights add up to more than the storage does. Advantages: Why Box-n-Go Beats Storage and Moving Companies sets that against what a rented unit costs on its own.

Box-n-Go: CSUF Student Storage Made Simple

Box-n-Go does the driving part. A container or a crew comes to the room on the day the room has to be empty, the load goes into an indoor facility, and it comes back to whatever address the fall lease is at. No truck is rented, nothing is driven across town, and nobody flies in. CSUF summer storage is exactly that stretch: the weekend after finals to the week the next lease starts.

Self-Load Flex Container: CSUF Summer Storage for Apartments

For students moving out of apartments, the Self-Load Flex container is the one to take when there is furniture in the room. An 8 by 5 by 7 foot container is left at the apartment building, the house, or the closest place we are allowed to park. It sits on the ground the whole time, so nothing has to go up a ramp or through a loading dock. Around Fullerton, Brea and Placentia the lease date is what empties the room, so the container goes to the address on the lease rather than to a hall.

Boxes, a cart of bedding, a bin and a folded chair on a patio, set out for college storage Fullerton.
Five boxes, a cart of bedding, a bin and a folded chair against the patio wall.

You fill it across several days instead of one afternoon, which is what makes it workable during finals. Pack it properly, load it when it suits you, and skip the single frantic moving day. When it is full we collect the container and take it to the indoor facility. It comes back to the new address whenever you say, fall term or later. Pickup and delivery windows, including holidays, are set out in Box-n-Go Hours: Office, Delivery, Access and Holidays. A bed frame, a desk, a chair and a dozen boxes is what an apartment move-out usually comes to, and all of it goes in the one container.

Three roommates in one Self-Load container pay less each than three separate units would. If nobody wants to carry the furniture, loading help can be booked to do it.

A La Carte Valet: CSUF Dorm Storage

In a residence hall room, or anywhere the load is small, A La Carte Valet handles it and charges by the box. You pay for the boxes you filled, which is the cheaper way to do it when there are a dozen of them plus a lamp, a fan and a monitor.

Student items including blue plastic drawers packed and labeled for csuf dorm storage.
A drawer unit wrapped in film with its tag on the front and a roll of tape beside it.

CSUF students living in housing or nearby apartments find A La Carte ideal for manageable loads. The kit is mailed out so it lands before the pickup day, with five U Boxes, packing tape and a marker to start you off and no cap on how many you end up using. Ask for more, change the order before it ships, or pack into cartons you already have. The board is heavier than a supermarket carton and the flaps overlap the whole way across, which is what stops the bottom box in a summer-long stack from going out of square. Fill them over several days as finals allow, then book the pickup. A crew labels every item in the room, carries it out, and puts it into secure indoor storage.

It is not restricted to boxes. A desk chair, a bike, a mini-fridge or a piece of furniture goes on the same booking. You are charged for the boxes you filled and nothing else. It is the option that keeps a first-year student's parents from flying in for the weekend. Any term here you have not met before is in Student Storage Terms: A Plain English Glossary.

Other Storage Options Near CSUF

Students seeking traditional self storage in the Fullerton area can also consider these local facilities. Keep in mind that these options require you to transport items yourself using a truck or large vehicle and typically involve monthly contracts with less flexibility:

  • Public Storage, 2361 W Commonwealth Ave, Fullerton, CA 92831
  • Public Storage, 1441 N Baxter St, Anaheim, CA 92832
  • Public Storage, 440 E Lambert Road, Brea, CA 92831
  • Extra Space Storage, 480 W Crowther Ave, Placentia, CA 92832
  • Public Storage, 6990 Noritsu Ave, Buena Park, CA 92831
  • Public Storage, 2750 E Imperial Hwy, Brea, CA 92832

These facilities serve the Fullerton area and provide traditional storage unit rentals, but need a car at both ends and available time during the busy move-out week. Without a car, or with an exam on the last day of the week, none of them are actually reachable.

What Students and Parents Say

From students and parents at campuses across Southern California. More of them are on Box-n-Go Customer Reviews.

★★★★★

"Box-n-Go is extremely convenient for a college graduate dealing with moving out! I needed a place to store my furniture for my friend who will be buying all of it, and Box n Go made the stress of moving quite minimal. Best of all, they do all the transporting for you! Frank, who helped me out, seems like an honest and friendly businessman, and he was willing to give me a discount, too! Overall, I would totally work with Box n Go again for my storage needs and would recommend them to anyone in need of convenient storage."

- Jennifer K., San Dimas, CA

★★★★★

"Really easy! I used Box-n-Go for the first time last summer to store all my stuff during summer break and they made moving really easy. My parents were really excited that they didn't need to rent a truck or anything. Box-n-go delivered the storage unit, I filled, then they came back and picked it up. Really easy!!! So easy that this last semester when I moved out of the dorms I used them again!"

- Beatrisa B.

★★★★★

"Excellent!!! My old landlord dropped a 30 day notice to leave right before I had to go on a trip so actually I had about 2 weeks to move my entire apartment out. This was super convenient and the service was excellent! You pretty much order the boxes. I ordered 4 since I have a lot of stuff. The PODS get delivered to your house. (make sure to save some parking space right in front of your place to make for easier moving) and once your are done lock em up (with your own locks) and they pick it up. they store for a reasonable price at there storage or you can have them deliver to your next apartment! easy peasy! The only downfall was if you have extremely large couches it will not fit. So make sure to get the dimensions of the PODS and make sure to see if anything you have wont fit. Good for: College Kids moving or small apartment move. Takes the stress out of transporting and storing!!"

- Michelle D., Los Angeles, CA

★★★★★

"I needed a way to store my daughter's dorm room possessions while she was home from college. One option was to travel 3000 miles, rent a car, stay overnight and help her move the items into a rented storage facility. The other option was to use Box-n-Go Storage. They dropped off a storage container so it could be packed. They picked it up and stored it for three months. They then dropped it off again so it could be emptied. Everything was on time and very efficient. I saved a significant amount of money using Box-n-Go. Additionally, the people I dealt with who work for Box-n-Go, especially Tim, were friendly, courteous, helpful and professional. I would highly recommend this company if you ever have a need for temporary storage."

What Our Customers Think
Judy S.
Video transcript

With any storage facility, my concerns are, number one, safety and theft of my items, how well are they going to be cared for? Are they going to be damaged, shaken around, especially in a pod? Then also ease of access, it's not like a roll-up-door storage locker where you can just go and get in; it has to be brought out. And I thought, boy, all that moving around, it's going to be a wreck. And cost, and so on. And then, working with the people there, how easy is that going to be?

I was very pleased with the service. When I first packed up, I didn't order enough pods, and here I am in the middle of moving, on a deadline, I have to fly out across the Pacific, so it's not like I can wait around. I needed more pods. They delivered me more pods on the spot, and I packed them up.

Over the years, and I've been here quite a few years, because I moved from the mainland to Hawaii, and now from Hawaii to Panama, I've had these storage lockers for years. I went from four to three, three to two, and now two to one. Every time I've had to come here or contact them, they're Johnny-on-the-spot, so accommodating. When I call in to make my payments, I almost feel like I work here now, because I know everybody so well. They're very understanding and easy to work with.

I've had other storage lockers, this is the best experience I've ever had. That's why I've been here so long. My kids are already saying they're going to use Box-n-Go when they move. You don't think your stuff's going to be in storage that long, but it is. And with all the ins and outs of the pods, nothing has ever been damaged. Not one thing. So I'm very pleased. Very pleased.

If you're going to be out of state, your stuff's secure, it's taken care of, it's not deteriorating. We had a leather saddle in there for years, I said to my husband, it's going to be full of mold, even your shoes get moldy when they're locked up. We took it out, it's perfect. It's temperature controlled, all of it. I couldn't be happier. I would definitely recommend them. I have recommended them.

This was the first time I was renting storage. My first concerns were: where was the storage place, and was it safe? I'm putting all my valuables and keepsakes, things that are really important to me, so it was really important that they felt safe, that the company was a real company I trusted. Also the cost, how much was it going to be? I didn't want to have to worry, while I'm out traveling, about being hit with all these fees on top of it, or weird things. So those were the main concerns.

What surprised me the most, there are so many things I could say, but I guess just how easy it was. I had no idea. The whole process was very easy. When I moved everything, the box came to me, I put everything in there, it was just so simple and affordable. And then even getting into my storage: because I decided to keep traveling a little bit longer, it was super easy just to drop in, take stuff out or put some in. It was just so easy. And I felt very safe. So it totally blew my expectations of what I thought storage would be, because it's just been very pleasant.

I recommend them all the time to many people, mostly because I feel safe, I feel like my storage is in a safe place, and just because of how easy and affordable this whole process has been.

When I first called Box-n-Go, I spoke to Frank, and he was very thorough with the information I needed, sizes, prices and rates, the contract based on the number of months, any specials. I thought, wow, he's giving me everything; I'm not really having to ask. I liked that a lot, the information was provided up front. I told him I'd take everything, look through it, do some research, and come back to him. But I pretty much knew everything he'd said made sense, and I felt really comfortable with him. He was oriented toward good customer service, just on point. I had nothing in my mind that said I wanted to look any further.

I did some searches and Box-n-Go came up. I'd talked to some other people before, but when I got to Box-n-Go I was just like, "You know what? I've made my decision." I had no hesitation about going with anyone else.

The container came to my home, and it was exactly the size I thought it was, no surprises, no "this is too big, this is too small." I put everything in it, it got picked up, everything was on schedule, exactly as Frank had said. I was definitely pleased.

I really liked working with Frank. He was my point person the whole time I had my storage. I'd call him, he remembered me, and he made every attempt to be on point with everything. When I'd come to the storage facility to check on things, take some out, put some in, he was always there, friendly. And there were the two Stans; customer service was great, the warehouse guys were great. Everyone was friendly, no one was rude, no one was lost or disappeared. They helped me move stuff in, they helped me move stuff out. It was great, even though I was taking my stuff out of storage.

I would recommend them to everyone. So kudos to Frank, the two Stans, the warehouse guys, and Box-n-Go in general.

Student Storage Tips (Save Time, Avoid Damage)

Almost nothing goes wrong in the warehouse. It goes wrong in the apartment, late in the week, with an exam still to sit and a lease running out. Four things are behind most of it: food, liquids, mini-fridges and open toiletries.

  • Keep every box under fifty pounds. Overloaded boxes are unsafe to lift and collapse when stacked.
  • Nothing that pours, nothing that spoils. Shampoo, detergent, half-finished drinks and anything sealed in the pantry all find a way out in a warm truck. Tape the lids, bag them, or leave them behind.
  • Defrost the mini-fridge a day before pickup. Then clean and dry it, and clean the microwave. A fridge packed damp comes back smelling of what was in it.
  • Label all sides of every box. Student name, a phone number, and where it is going. Boxes are stacked, and the top is the one face nobody can read.
  • Trash bags are dust covers, not luggage. Never let one carry weight. Roll mattress toppers rather than folding them, and bag them.
  • Pad anything breakable and mark it fragile. Wrap each piece individually. Nothing loose rattling in drawers.
  • Photograph the inside of each box before taping it. It takes a second and it is the only inventory anybody actually keeps.
  • Keep passport, medication, laptop and chargers with you. Nothing needed in the next few days goes into storage.
  • Boxes stacked by a doorway with a blue bag, labeled for storage near csuf.
Boxes stacked by the door, the name and box number written on each.

Go through the printable student storage move-out checklist while there is still time to do something about it. It is short on purpose, and move-out goes wrong in the same few places every year without it.

Frequently Asked Questions: Storage Near CSUF

Do I have to be present during pickup or delivery?

Typically, students or an authorized representative should be present. Scheduling flexibility is available to accommodate finals, travel, and move-out timing. If you can't be there, most services allow you to designate a roommate or friend.

What packing supplies do I need?

You'll need sturdy boxes, packing tape, markers for labeling, and protective materials like bubble wrap for fragile items. Our kit holds five Box-n-Go U Boxes, packing tape and a marker, and unused boxes can be returned for credit.

What is the difference between Self-Load and A La Carte?

Self-Load provides a portable storage container that you load yourself at your own pace, making it ideal for apartment students with furniture and larger volumes. A La Carte offers full-service pickup with by-the-box pricing, perfect for dorm residents with fewer items who want Box-n-Go's team to handle all the physical lifting and loading.

Yellow Box-n-Go csuf student storage container in a parking lot near the dolly.
A container standing beside the hand truck, ready to be loaded.

How do I know how many boxes I need?

A typical dorm room requires 5-10 medium boxes plus space for furniture and odd-shaped items. Order slightly more than you think you need, because unused boxes can be returned for credit. Your storage provider may offer guidance based on your room type.

What items should not be stored?

Avoid storing food, perishables, liquids, open toiletries, hazardous materials, flammable items, and irreplaceable documents. These items can damage other belongings, create safety hazards, or violate storage regulations.

How does delivery work for fall move-in?

Schedule your preferred delivery date as your fall housing becomes available. Box-n-Go delivers your container or individual items to your new address on your schedule, whether it is the same building as before, a new apartment across campus, or somewhere completely different in our service area.
