Cal Poly Summer Storage | Storage Units Near Cal Poly Pomona
Every May, everything on this campus empties at once. Fourteen hundred acres of hillside, a residential village that turns over inside a week, and thousands of apartment leases across Pomona, Diamond Bar and Walnut that all end on the last day of the month. Cal poly summer storage is what fills the gap between the day the room has to be empty and the day in August when there is somewhere to put things again. The alternative is one of the storage units near Cal Poly Pomona, which needs a car and a free Saturday.
Cal poly storage with Box-n-Go is one collection and one delivery. That is the shape it needs when the whole campus turns over in the same week. Everything leaves the room in May, waits out the summer in an indoor facility, and arrives at the fall address in August. No gate code, no rented truck, no second trip across the valley.

Storage After Finals Cal Poly Pomona: the Squeeze Between the Last Exam and the Lease Date
Housing at Cal Poly Pomona ends on a published date and holds to it, because the rooms are needed for summer programs and orientation. Whatever is in the suite or the pod on that date has to be somewhere else. That somewhere else has to be off campus.
Off campus the date is set by a landlord instead, and it is the last day of the month rather than the day after the last final. Those two dates are almost never the same date, and when the new lease starts on the first of a later month the gap stretches to weeks.
Then there is the load itself. Broncos build things. A project bench, a toolbox, a monitor and a second monitor, a bike, two seasons of clothes, and a kitchen put together one pan at a time. It does not fit in a car, and most of it should not fly home in May and fly back in August.

Learn By Doing, on Fourteen Hundred Acres
Cal Poly Pomona was founded in 1938 and has spent the years since building a campus that does not look like anyone else's: rolling hills and working farmland, one of a handful of polytechnic universities in the country, and a Rose Float team that puts a student-built float in the parade every January. Bonelli Regional Park is minutes away and Ontario Mills is a short drive east.
However, size is exactly what makes the last week of the term difficult. The campus is spread across hillsides, the parking is a distance from the buildings, and the roads out to the storage on Holt Boulevard and Garey Avenue are the same roads everybody else is using that week.
What Renting a Unit and a Truck Actually Costs
The monthly rate on a storage unit is the smallest number in this. What a Bronco actually needs runs from one week in May to one week in August, and a unit is not sold that way.
A rental truck is quoted by the day and charged by the mile, and it has to be driven by somebody who has never driven one, on the one weekend when every friend who might have helped is doing their own move-out.
For a family flying in, the arithmetic gets worse. A seat into Ontario in the third week of May, a rental car, two nights in a hotel because it never takes one day. That travel costs more than the storage does, and at the end of it a parent is carrying a desk down an outside staircase in the heat.
Then the unit itself asks for a deposit and a padlock bought at the counter, and it is rented by the month, whole months at a time, when the room is only in it from one week in May to one week in August. Box-n-Go vs Self-Storage sets the two side by side without the guesswork.
What We Do Instead
Box-n-Go collects and delivers, so the truck and the driving are ours. Cal poly student storage comes in two forms, and the choice is about the room, not the price. One leaves a container at an off-campus address for several days and lets you fill it at your own pace. The other sends a crew up to a room in university housing to carry everything down. The choice comes down to whether there is furniture.
If You Rent Off Campus: the Self-Load Flex Container
We drop an 8 by 5 foot Flex container at the apartment or at the curb outside it and leave it there for several days. It gets loaded across an evening here and an afternoon there, closed with your own lock, and collected whole. It goes straight into an indoor facility and stays there until you ask for it back.
This is the option to take when there is furniture, and rentals around Pomona and Walnut come unfurnished, so there almost always is. A desk, a chair, a bed frame and a set of shelves fill a container without any planning on paper. Roommates who split one pay less each than either would pay for a unit alone, and every name goes on the account so each person labels and reclaims their own things.
If the packing materials are the missing piece rather than the truck, Supplies+: Moving Boxes, Packing Materials and Rentals covers what can be sent out ahead of the date.

Student Storage Near Cal Poly Pomona: A La Carte, By the Box
A container is no use outside a residential suite, and it is not needed. Dorm storage near cal poly pomona works from the room door. A La Carte Valet stores belongings by the box instead, which is what Cal Poly Pomona student storage looks like for anyone in university housing. It is the version where nothing leaves the building on your shoulders.
A kit arrives in the mail before pickup day: five Box-n-Go U Boxes, tape and a marker, and more if you ask for them. They are designed for a student's summer in storage, not for a hardware store shelf. The cardboard is thicker and the flaps overlap the whole way across, because a student box is not carried across a room and set down, it is stacked in a warehouse for three months with other boxes on top of it. Use your own boxes instead if you would rather, and change the kit before it ships if the count is wrong.

On the day the crew comes to the room. Every box and every loose item is labeled, registered against the account, carried down and taken to an indoor facility. Furniture is fine, and so is anything that will not go in a box as long as it is on the booking: a chair, a bookcase, a floor lamp, a mini-fridge that has been emptied and dried. Charging is by the item, so eight boxes cost eight boxes.
In August it comes back to whatever address you give us, which after a summer of housing assignments is often an address nobody had in May. Moving Countdown: Plan Your Move sets out which week to do what in.
College Storage Near Cal Poly Pomona: Renting a Unit in Pomona Instead
There is self storage nearby and it is worth knowing what is there. The choice comes down to these buildings or to a service that collects. These are the six that sit closest to campus, and every one of them expects you to get your belongings there and back yourself:
- Extra Space Storage, 601 Ridgeway St, Pomona, CA 91768
- Public Storage, 730 E 1st St, Pomona, CA 91768
- Extra Space Storage, 2680 N Garey Ave, Pomona, CA 91768
- Public Storage, 1640 N White Ave, La Verne, CA 91768
- Public Storage, 211 W Allen Ave, San Dimas, CA 91768
- Extra Space Storage, 20671 Valley Blvd, Walnut, CA 91768
They run from Pomona out to La Verne, San Dimas and Walnut, so self storage near cal poly pomona and student storage pomona ca mean a drive of several miles rather than a walk. Storage near 91768 works if you have a car and a free weekend; without one, storage near cal poly pomona that you drive to yourself costs more than pickup and delivery does, once the truck rental and the two round trips are counted. Compare Box-n-Go puts the two ways of doing it next to each other.
What Students and Parents Say
Reviews left by students and parents using the service at campuses across the region:
"Box-n-Go is extremely convenient for a college graduate dealing with moving out! I needed a place to store my furniture for my friend who will be buying all of it, and Box n Go made the stress of moving quite minimal. Best of all, they do all the transporting for you! Frank, who helped me out, seems like an honest and friendly businessman, and he was willing to give me a discount, too! Overall, I would totally work with Box n Go again for my storage needs and would recommend them to anyone in need of convenient storage."
- Jennifer K., San Dimas, CA
"Excellent!!! My old landlord dropped a 30 day notice to leave right before I had to go on a trip so actually I had about 2 weeks to move my entire apartment out. This was super convenient and the service was excellent! You pretty much order the boxes. I ordered 4 since I have a lot of stuff. The PODS get delivered to your house. (make sure to save some parking space right in front of your place to make for easier moving) and once your are done lock em up (with your own locks) and they pick it up. they store for a reasonable price at there storage or you can have them deliver to your next apartment! easy peasy! The only downfall was if you have extremely large couches it will not fit. So make sure to get the dimensions of the PODS and make sure to see if anything you have wont fit. Good for: College Kids moving or small apartment move. Takes the stress out of transporting and storing!!"
- Michelle D., Los Angeles, CA
"My daughter has been doing business with Box-n-Go for three years. Every year she must place her personal items in storage over the summer school break. The service provided is affordable and reliable. Frank is a good listener and makes great moving suggestion saving the client money and time. This year frank coordinated an unusual move and request for my daughter. Frank as always made it happen smoothly. Helping Hands is a great service also, especially if the move requires going up and down stairs. My daughter has never experienced any damage to her possessions when items were in storage or when helping hands assisted with the move. We are very satisfied customers and would recommend Box-n-Go for your next move and storage! Thanks frank for all that you have done for us overs the many years!"
- Diane R., Pasadena, CA - Parent
"I have used box n go a few times and every time it has gone without any issues. Ashley was so helpful and understanding when working with my daughter's tough college and swimming schedule and making it a no stress situation. Everyone I have talked to on the phone is very re-assuring. It is a great business and so helpful for the college students away from home."

Short Term Storage Cal Poly Pomona Students Take, and Away Longer Than One Summer
Not every room is reclaimed in August. A co-op placement, an internship in another state, a semester abroad or a stretch between degrees all put a room into storage for longer than a break. Billing is monthly, so a four-week gap between two leases, four months and fourteen months are all charged the same way per month, and belongings can be reached during the stay with a few days of notice.
When a date moves, and it usually does at least once, CARE: Customer Help Center is where the answers live. Services: How Box-n-Go Can Help covers what else can be added if the summer turns into a move rather than a break.
August, and an Address Nobody Had in May
The delivery end of this is the part people plan for least and ask about most.
Housing assignments arrive across the summer, and off-campus leases in Pomona, Diamond Bar and Walnut mostly start on the first of a month rather than on a date that lines up with anybody's move-in. So the address a container goes back to in August is very often not the address it left from in May, and just as often not an address anyone knew in May either.

The booking does not need it until it is settled. The date is what gets held; the address is confirmed later, and if the assignment changes in August, which it does, the delivery follows it rather than the other way round.
It comes back whole, so nothing is unpacked and repacked along the way, and it is set down at ground level again rather than carried up. For someone moving into the residential village that means the boxes arrive at the building. For someone moving into an apartment it means the container stands at the curb for as long as it takes to empty it, instead of a truck waiting with its hazards on while four people hurry.
If the fall date has to move once it is booked, it moves. Notice is what makes that easy rather than awkward, and a week is comfortable.
Packing Is Where This Goes Wrong
Almost nothing goes wrong in the warehouse. It goes wrong in the room, at eleven at night, at the end of a week of exams, when somebody doing this for the first time is deciding quickly. Four things cause most of the damage: food, liquids, mini-fridges and open toiletries. A jar of sauce, a half bottle of detergent, a fridge that was never defrosted, a shower caddy tipped into a box.

Work through the printable student move-out checklist a few days out rather than that night. It is short on purpose, and it is the thing that stops a parent flying in to supervise a job that only needed a phone call.
Student Storage Tips (Save Time, Avoid Damage)
- Keep every box under fifty pounds. Overloaded boxes are unsafe to lift and collapse when stacked.
- Nothing that pours, nothing that spoils. Shampoo, detergent, half-finished drinks and anything sealed in the pantry all find a way out in a warm truck. Tape the lids, bag them, or leave them behind.
- Defrost the mini-fridge a day before pickup. Then clean and dry it, and clean the microwave. A fridge packed damp comes back smelling of what was in it.
- Label all sides of every box. Student name, a phone number, and where it is going. Boxes are stacked, and the top is the one face nobody can read.
- Trash bags are dust covers, not luggage. Never let one carry weight. Roll mattress toppers rather than folding them, and bag them.
- Pad anything breakable and mark it fragile. Wrap each piece individually. Nothing loose rattling in drawers.
- Photograph the inside of each box before taping it. It takes a second and it is the only inventory anybody actually keeps.
- Keep passport, medication, laptop and chargers with you. Nothing needed in the next few days goes into storage.

Parents, that list doubles as a phone call. Read it down once and you will know whether the fridge and the open bottles have actually been dealt with.

More on Storing a Room
Two pages cover most of what comes next. Summer storage for students runs the May to August cycle end to end, and student storage pickup and delivery explains how the collection and the return are actually scheduled. Every campus we serve sits under student storage in Southern California.
Book Before the Housing Dates Land
All of which comes back to the calendar. University housing closes on one published date and the leases across Pomona turn over on another, and the two fall inside the same two weeks, so every booking around this campus lands in the same short window. The slots that fit around an exam go first.
Pick the date now and it is yours, whether that is a Flex container outside an apartment in Walnut or a crew coming up to a room in the residential suites.
