Storage Units Near CSUN | CSUN Student Storage
Thirty-eight thousand students, and one Saturday in the middle of May when every room in campus housing has to be empty by one in the afternoon. That is move-out at California State University, Northridge. The pressure lands on University Park all at once. The rest answer to a landlord or a family garage instead. A day at Universal Studios Hollywood or up in the Santa Monica Mountains is not what that weekend turns out to be. Storage units near CSUN are what keeps it from becoming four trips down Reseda Boulevard, and CSUN student storage comes to the building instead. Storage near CSUN otherwise means a unit off Nordhoff Street and a borrowed car.

Why CSUN Students Need Storage Units Near CSUN
CSUN has been in Northridge since 1958, and most of its students live off campus. Finals run for a week and housing closes on the Saturday at the end of it, with key card access switching off at one in the afternoon whether the room is empty or not. Housing sets that date and does not move it; a lease in Northridge or Reseda sets a different one, and the two were never going to agree. Somewhere has to hold the room in between, and it has to be somewhere you can reach without a car.
Commencement runs across four days that same week, on the Library Lawn, with families arriving from out of town for it. The room has to be cleared around all of that. Matadors come from across the state and from abroad, and shipping a room home twice costs more than keeping it here. Returning residents move back in on a Friday in the third week of August, which is fourteen weeks later. Nothing on campus holds a box across that gap. That is why so many Matadors and their families end up looking for somewhere affordable to put a room for the summer.
The Traditional Storage Near CSUN Problem
The Valley works against a student at move-out time. The units close to Northridge fill first, which pushes the search out to Burbank, Van Nuys or further, and Valley distances mean a car for every one of those trips. Loading a truck here in May is done in the heat, twice, at the end of a week of exams.
Distance does not buy anything back either. Flights to Burbank or LAX during Matador move-out week are not cheap. Hotels near Northridge are limited, which pushes families toward pricier areas. Valley traffic turns a truck rental trip into most of a day. Between travel, lodging, fuel and storage deposits the summer adds up, and that is only the summer. Do it four years running and the logistics cost more than anyone budgets for.
Box-n-Go: Self Storage Near CSUN Made Simple
Box-n-Go is built for that Saturday. We come to the building in University Park or to the apartment, carry the load out, keep it indoors, and bring it back to whatever address you are at in August. Nothing about it needs a van or a second person. It is the answer with the fewest moving parts.
Self-Load Flex Container: CSUN Student Storage for Apartments

With an apartment's worth of furniture to shift, the Self-Load Flex container is the more adaptable of the two. The container is eight feet by five by seven and it comes to the apartment or the nearest place a container may legally stand. It sits on the ground the whole time it is with you, so nothing is lifted above the doorway. How to Load Your Storage Container and Prepare for Pickup covers filling a whole container.
It is filled across the days you have rather than in the hours before the one o'clock deadline. Loaded, it leaves whole and goes indoors. It comes back in August to the address you name. A bed frame, a desk, a chair and a dozen boxes all go in the one container, which is what emptying an apartment usually amounts to.

Two or three sharing an apartment can put one container between them and divide it. Loading help can be added for anyone who does not want to carry it out.
A La Carte Valet: CSUN Dorm Storage
For a room in the Suites, or for anyone whose load is boxes rather than furniture, A La Carte Valet is the by-the-box version of the same service. The bill follows the boxes, so a room with a lamp, a fan and a dozen cartons in it is charged as exactly that.

Your kit is in the mail before pickup day with five Box-n-Go U Boxes, packing tape and a marker. Five is a starting point, not a cap: request additional boxes, adjust the kit before it ships, or use boxes you already own. These boxes are made for a student room going into storage. The cardboard is heavier than the flat-packed kind and the flaps overlap the whole way across, because these hold up a stack for fourteen weeks. Fill them when you have time, then choose the pickup day. The crew meets you in your room at the booked time, labels each item, carries everything to the truck and into secure indoor storage, and brings it back to your room in the fall.
It is not just boxes. Bicycles, mini-fridges, desk chairs and a floor lamp go on the same collection. Charging by the box is why a small load stays small on the bill. It also means nobody has to drive down from Bakersfield to help carry it. A first-year whose family is two hours up the 5 is the usual case for it.

- Extra Space Storage, 18500 Eddy St, Northridge, CA 91324

These are the Northridge options, and each one asks for a vehicle and a free day in the week that has neither. For a student without a car, or one with an exam on the Friday, the traditional version is not really available. Box-n-Go is the version where the driving is ours. Box-n-Go vs Self-Storage sets the two out side by side.

- Cary G., Munster, IN - Parent
"Box n go has been a great storage solution for daughter in college. Easy to order online, they send all storage materials, and pick up for you. We are using them for a second year this year and communication has been great. We had to change the pick up date and they were super accommodating. Grateful to have this easy system for dorm storage over the summer!"
- Amirra M.
"Thank you very much. We Will use again. Very helpful. Thank you to Henry for all the help."
- M F., UCLA, CA
"I'm a UCLA sophomore that is an out-of-state student so storing my belongings was a MUST between school years! Boxngo has truly been so helpful along the way with their easy online booking process and helpful phone attendants that have always picked up and helped me when needed. My FABULOUS mover Henry moved my stuff last summer and dropped my stuff off again today and he is suuuuch a superstar! When UCLA traffic workers told him he couldn't park near me he parked very far away and hiked about a 1/4 of a mile to get all SEVEN of my boxes to me in a sound and efficient manner! They bring your boxes all the way up to your room so I did virtually none of the work! Henry is truly my bestie and YALL SHOULD GIVE HIM A RAISE... give him a raise... he deserves it!! Thanks Henry and BoxnGo!!"
- Oliver S., UCLA, CA
CSUN Student Storage Tips: Preparing for Move-Out Success
The Valley's scale makes move-out logistics challenging, and the heat makes food, liquids, mini-fridges and open toiletries worse here than elsewhere. These are what keep a Matador organized through the last week of the term:

- Keep every box under fifty pounds. Overloaded boxes are unsafe to lift and collapse when stacked.
- Nothing that pours, nothing that spoils. Shampoo, detergent, half-finished drinks and anything sealed in the pantry all find a way out in a warm truck. Tape the lids, bag them, or leave them behind.
- Defrost the mini-fridge a day before pickup. Then clean and dry it, and clean the microwave. A fridge packed damp comes back smelling of what was in it.
- Label all sides of every box. Student name, a phone number, and where it is going. Boxes are stacked, and the top is the one face nobody can read.
- Trash bags are dust covers, not luggage. Never let one carry weight. Roll mattress toppers rather than folding them, and bag them.
- Pad anything breakable and mark it fragile. Wrap each piece individually. Nothing loose rattling in drawers.
- Photograph the inside of each box before taping it. It takes a second and it is the only inventory anybody actually keeps.
- Keep passport, medication, laptop and chargers with you. Nothing needed in the next few days goes into storage.
Not sure how much you are actually storing? How Much Storage Space Do You Need? works it out.
The whole order of it is set out in the student storage move-out checklist, which is worth reading before the first box.
Frequently Asked Questions: Storage Near CSUN
Is student storage safe and secure?
Your things are kept indoors in a monitored, climate friendly warehouse. Nothing sits in an outdoor row, and every piece is labeled to your account.
| Self Load | A la Carte Valet | |
|---|---|---|
| Furniture Prep | You | You |
| Pack Boxes | You | You |
| Load Storage | You | We Do |
| Prorate | Yes | No |
| Access Notice | 1 Day | 3 Day |
| Min. Return Notice | 7 Days | 5 Days |
Where will my items be stored?
In our indoor facility, under a roof and behind a monitored door, rather than a drive-up unit off Nordhoff.
How do I get my items back at the end of summer?
Schedule delivery through your online account or by phone. Give your new address, whether that is a residence hall or an apartment, and your preferred delivery date. Items are delivered to your room or building.
How do you keep track of items so they don't get lost or mixed up?
Crews label and register each box and item picked up against the account. Once items arrive at the warehouse they are tracked by barcode, and several labels are attached to each piece.
Are items protected against damage or loss?
Yes. Every stored item carries basic protection, and the level can be raised at booking. Worth doing for a monitor or a laptop.
