Student Storage Near The Masters University

At a big state school somebody sets up a folding table in the union in April and takes storage bookings for a week. Nobody does that at the top of Placerita Canyon, because the whole campus fits in six halls. What that leaves is a few hundred rooms wanting the same thing in the same seven days, most of them without a vehicle that would help. That is a different problem from the one a campus of forty thousand has, and student storage near The Masters University is built around it. On campus the shorter name for it is TMU student storage, and it runs building by building over the weekend the halls close.

The school has been small on purpose since it started in 1927. It has had this campus since 1961, at the mouth of Placerita Canyon, and it never grew out of the habit. Your professors know your name by October. The name on the sign changed in 2016, and The Master's College storage is the same service under the older name. Parents who search for The Masters University student storage without the apostrophe land in the same place, because the school's own web address drops it too.

The canyon is the reason a lot of people pick Santa Clarita over a campus closer to the freeway. Placerita Canyon State Park begins at the edge of campus and charges nothing for admission or parking. Ten minutes down the road, Old Town Newhall has The MAIN, the Walk of Western Stars and enough restaurants to carry you through four years of Friday nights. The rest of Southern California is close enough to reach and far enough not to intrude, with Los Angeles forty minutes south.

None of that helps in the week the semester ends. Housing publishes a close date and holds to it. Leases in Newhall and Canyon Country all turn over on the last day of the month. A room turns into a pile in a hallway, and the pile has to be gone by Sunday.

When Finals, Move-Out and the Drive Home All Land in One Week

Finals finish, the halls close and the flight or the drive home leaves, all inside the same seven days. That is the squeeze this service exists to relieve, and in Santa Clarita it lands on everybody at once, because the school is small enough that almost every last exam falls in the same handful of days.

Then there is the load itself. A year in a residence hall adds up to more than a car holds. Bedding, a mini-fridge, a desk lamp, a term of textbooks, a bike, and the boxes nobody planned on all have to go somewhere. If you came from out of state you cannot check that onto a plane. If you leave it with a friend in town, it stays there until the friend graduates.

The Real Price of a Unit Off The Old Road

So the obvious answer is a unit off The Old Road or Railroad Avenue, and it does work. But look past the monthly rent. That assumes a vehicle, or a rental truck that is nothing like the car you learned in. You need a friend with a free Saturday during the one weekend nobody on this campus has a free Saturday. The lease gets signed, the gate hours get learned, and in August the whole sequence runs backwards.

That is the student's version of the problem. The parent's version costs more. Airfare, a rental car, two hotel nights and a truck come to more than the storage would have, and a parent still ends the weekend carrying boxes downstairs. Our Storage Terms: A Plain-Language Glossary explains what a storage contract actually says, before anyone signs one.

So the Storage Comes to You Instead

The container, or the boxes, come to the building instead. You fill it. It leaves with us and is kept under a roof. Nothing to rent, no gate code, and no return trip in August. Box-n-Go has run storage and moving out of Los Angeles since 2006, and About Storage and Moving says how the company is put together.

There are two ways to do it, and your address decides which one suits you. Box-n-Go Storage Services sets both out in full.

Bicycles in a pickup bed and a flat cart of labeled cartons and duffel bags waiting in a parking lot on TMU move out storage day.
Bikes and bags go out on the same run as the boxes.

Off Campus in Santa Clarita: the Self-Load Flex Container

An 8 by 5 foot Flex container arrives at your apartment, or at the curb if that is as close as we can get. Load it over a few days instead of one bad afternoon, secure it with a lock of your own, and let us know when it is ready. From there it sits in an indoor facility until you send for it.

Take this one if there is furniture in the room. Rentals in Canyon Country and Newhall come unfurnished, so a desk, a chair, a bed frame and some shelves fill a container on their own. Divided between three of you it works out cheaper per person than a shared unit would. That is what Masters University summer storage usually comes to: one container, three names. Each roommate is named on the account and labels and collects their own belongings.

The container is yours for the whole loading window, which is what makes the awkward things easy: a bike, a rolled rug, a monitor stand, a guitar case.

Living in the Halls: A La Carte, by the Box

In Slight, Sweazy, Hotchkiss, Dixon, Waldock or C.W. Smith there is no reason for a container to stand in the lot. Slight dormitory storage and CW Smith dormitory storage differ only in which staircase the crew climbs. A La Carte Valet works by the box rather than by the container. A kit is mailed out before pickup day: five U Boxes, tape and a marker, with more on request. These boxes are built for a student summer rather than bought at a hardware store: the cardboard is heavier than a moving box and the flaps overlap the whole way across, because a student box is stacked and left rather than carried once across a room. Your own boxes are fine if you prefer them. You pack whenever finals let you.

The crew climbs the stairs to your room on the day. Everything gets a label, boxes and loose items alike, each one logged to your account before it is carried down and driven to an indoor facility. In the fall it comes back into the room itself, or to whichever address you name if you have moved. With TMU dorm storage the crew works from the room itself, so there is no storage counter to stand at in May or in August. How Box-n-Go Works: Storage, Moving, and Student Services follows a booking from the first call to the fall delivery. Slight, Sweazy, Hotchkiss, Dixon, Waldock and C.W. Smith each set their own rule about what may be left in a room, and Dorm storage covers what a hall will and will not allow.

The bill counts boxes you filled and nothing else. On a campus this size the crew works one building at a time, so a whole floor of Slight or of C.W. Smith can go out in an afternoon. Hotchkiss first years tend to own boxes, a lamp and not much else. Someone moving back into Canyon Homes adds a bookcase or a chair. Furniture goes too, and so does anything else too big for a box, provided you tell us in advance.

Renting a Unit in 91321 Instead

Labeled Box-n-Go cartons stacked against a bare wall with a gray lidded tote on top and a second one beneath, packed for TMU dorm storage.
A room packed down to labeled boxes and two totes.

Eight conventional units sit within a short drive of campus if you would rather rent one. Each one still leaves the carrying to you, in both directions, so count that in before signing:

  • Public Storage, 23715 Carl Ct, Newhall, CA 91321
  • Storage King USA, 24314 The Old Road, Santa Clarita, CA 91321
  • Newhall Valencia Mini Storage, 22412 12th St, Newhall, CA 91321
  • StorQuest Self Storage, 24055 Calgrove Blvd, Santa Clarita, CA 91381
  • Keep It Self Storage, 25333 Railroad Ave, Santa Clarita, CA 91350
  • Public Storage, 26053 Bouquet Canyon Rd, Santa Clarita, CA 91350
  • Public Storage, 28111 Kelly Johnson Pkwy, Valencia, CA 91355
  • Public Storage, 18650 Via Princessa, Santa Clarita, CA 91387

With a car and a spare weekend they are genuine choices. Lacking either one, the rental truck and two round trips add up past what pickup and delivery costs. That is the bargain a rented unit offers: lower on the price list, higher once the weekend is over. Most people never add up that second half when they price storage near Masters University Santa Clarita against a pickup at the door.

What Students and Parents Told Us

★★★★★

"Really easy! I used Box-n-Go for the first time last summer to store all my stuff during summer break and they made moving really easy. My parents were really excited that they didn't need to rent a truck or anything. Box-n-go delivered the storage unit, I filled, then they came back and picked it up. Really easy!!! So easy that this last semester when I moved out of the dorms I used them again!"

- Beatrisa B.

★★★★★

"Box-n-Go makes things super easy when moving! Say goodbye to all the stress and chaos of trying to figure out movers and storage. They are a one stop shop. They dropped of a box when I was moving out my apartment in Westwood (they had an awesome promotional student discount too) they took it away to their secured location. Anytime I needed to visit my unit it was no problem! I've been a customer for a year and a half and I am pleased with how helpful and reliable they are! And Frank is super helpful and really cares about helping you handle your move with ease. If you don't want to have to deal with the hassle of hiring movers and a storage unit, Box-n-Go is a great solution!"

- Stephanie L., Los Angeles, CA

★★★★★

"I have used box n go a few times and every time it has gone without any issues. Ashley was so helpful and understanding when working with my daughter's tough college and swimming schedule and making it a no stress situation. Everyone I have talked to on the phone is very re-assuring. It is a great business and so helpful for the college students away from home."

- Polly U., Oakland, CA

★★★★★

"Makes it easy and affordable. We chose Box-n-Go for our sons move out of his college apt. They are picking up and storing his belongings for a summer and then fall semester when he is studying abroad. Makes it easy and affordable. No worries!"

What Our Customers Think

Video transcript

With any storage facility, my concerns are, number one, safety and theft of my items, how well are they going to be cared for? Are they going to be damaged, shaken around, especially in a pod? Then also ease of access, it's not like a roll-up-door storage locker where you can just go and get in; it has to be brought out. And I thought, boy, all that moving around, it's going to be a wreck. And cost, and so on. And then, working with the people there, how easy is that going to be?

I was very pleased with the service. When I first packed up, I didn't order enough pods, and here I am in the middle of moving, on a deadline, I have to fly out across the Pacific, so it's not like I can wait around. I needed more pods. They delivered me more pods on the spot, and I packed them up.

Over the years, and I've been here quite a few years, because I moved from the mainland to Hawaii, and now from Hawaii to Panama, I've had these storage lockers for years. I went from four to three, three to two, and now two to one. Every time I've had to come here or contact them, they're Johnny-on-the-spot, so accommodating. When I call in to make my payments, I almost feel like I work here now, because I know everybody so well. They're very understanding and easy to work with.

I've had other storage lockers, this is the best experience I've ever had. That's why I've been here so long. My kids are already saying they're going to use Box-n-Go when they move. You don't think your stuff's going to be in storage that long, but it is. And with all the ins and outs of the pods, nothing has ever been damaged. Not one thing. So I'm very pleased. Very pleased.

If you're going to be out of state, your stuff's secure, it's taken care of, it's not deteriorating. We had a leather saddle in there for years, I said to my husband, it's going to be full of mold, even your shoes get moldy when they're locked up. We took it out, it's perfect. It's temperature controlled, all of it. I couldn't be happier. I would definitely recommend them. I have recommended them.

This was the first time I was renting storage. My first concerns were: where was the storage place, and was it safe? I'm putting all my valuables and keepsakes, things that are really important to me, so it was really important that they felt safe, that the company was a real company I trusted. Also the cost, how much was it going to be? I didn't want to have to worry, while I'm out traveling, about being hit with all these fees on top of it, or weird things. So those were the main concerns.

What surprised me the most, there are so many things I could say, but I guess just how easy it was. I had no idea. The whole process was very easy. When I moved everything, the box came to me, I put everything in there, it was just so simple and affordable. And then even getting into my storage: because I decided to keep traveling a little bit longer, it was super easy just to drop in, take stuff out or put some in. It was just so easy. And I felt very safe. So it totally blew my expectations of what I thought storage would be, because it's just been very pleasant.

I recommend them all the time to many people, mostly because I feel safe, I feel like my storage is in a safe place, and just because of how easy and affordable this whole process has been.

When I first called Box-n-Go, I spoke to Frank, and he was very thorough with the information I needed, sizes, prices and rates, the contract based on the number of months, any specials. I thought, wow, he's giving me everything; I'm not really having to ask. I liked that a lot, the information was provided up front. I told him I'd take everything, look through it, do some research, and come back to him. But I pretty much knew everything he'd said made sense, and I felt really comfortable with him. He was oriented toward good customer service, just on point. I had nothing in my mind that said I wanted to look any further.

I did some searches and Box-n-Go came up. I'd talked to some other people before, but when I got to Box-n-Go I was just like, "You know what? I've made my decision." I had no hesitation about going with anyone else.

The container came to my home, and it was exactly the size I thought it was, no surprises, no "this is too big, this is too small." I put everything in it, it got picked up, everything was on schedule, exactly as Frank had said. I was definitely pleased.

I really liked working with Frank. He was my point person the whole time I had my storage. I'd call him, he remembered me, and he made every attempt to be on point with everything. When I'd come to the storage facility to check on things, take some out, put some in, he was always there, friendly. And there were the two Stans; customer service was great, the warehouse guys were great. Everyone was friendly, no one was rude, no one was lost or disappeared. They helped me move stuff in, they helped me move stuff out. It was great, even though I was taking my stuff out of storage.

I would recommend them to everyone. So kudos to Frank, the two Stans, the warehouse guys, and Box-n-Go in general.

A Year Out, a Placement, a Term Overseas

Three months is not everyone's summer. Some leave for longer: a year out, a placement in a school, an internship in ministry, a semester overseas. The Master's University student storage is billed by the month, so a stay that runs longer than planned extends rather than restarts.

You can get to your belongings during the stay with a few days' notice. The fall delivery is booked once your housing assignment comes through, which is often August. How to Get Your Belongings Back covers what happens on the day itself. The May to August cycle runs end to end on Summer storage for students.

Packing Is Where Storage Goes Wrong

Nearly every problem in storage begins at the packing stage, not in the warehouse. The general packing advice applies here as it does anywhere. The list below is the standard one, and the last two are the ones this campus adds.

Two plywood storage vaults and two yellow Box-n-Go containers parked together in a shaded lot, the equipment delivered for student storage near The Masters University.
The containers and vaults that get delivered for a self-load booking.

  • Keep every box under fifty pounds. Overloaded boxes are unsafe to lift and collapse when stacked.
  • Nothing that pours, nothing that spoils. Shampoo, detergent, half-finished drinks and anything sealed in the pantry all find a way out in a warm truck. Tape the lids, bag them, or leave them behind.
  • Defrost the mini-fridge a day before pickup. Then clean and dry it, and clean the microwave. A fridge packed damp comes back smelling of what was in it.
  • Label all sides of every box. Student name, a phone number, and where it is going. Boxes are stacked, and the top is the one face nobody can read.
  • Trash bags are dust covers, not luggage. Never let one carry weight. Roll mattress toppers rather than folding them, and bag them.
  • Pad anything breakable and mark it fragile. Wrap each piece individually. Nothing loose rattling in drawers.
  • Photograph the inside of each box before taping it. It takes a second and it is the only inventory anybody actually keeps.
  • Keep passport, medication, laptop and chargers with you. Nothing needed in the next few days goes into storage.
  • Clean bikes and sports gear before they go in. Chain grease and dried mud transfer to everything stacked around them.
  • Keep textbooks out of the big boxes. Paper is heavy, and a book box passes fifty pounds long before it looks full.

The printable student move-out checklist works best opened a few days out rather than on the last evening. It exists because the packing collides with finals, and a mini-fridge at midnight gets a poor decision every time.

Two Box-n-Go containers on a paved campus walkway lined with clipped hedges during move-out week, one at the near end and one further down, in use for The Master's University student storage.
Both containers stay on the walkway while the halls load.

The same list doubles as a phone script. Run down it once with your student and you will know whether the food, the liquids, the open toiletries and the fridge have actually been dealt with, and those four ruin more boxes between them than everything else put together. Keep the move-out checklist open while you talk.

Questions Asked Before the Halls Empty

These come up every May. TMU move out storage in Santa Clarita comes to two dates: one collection when term ends, one delivery in the fall.

Is student storage better than renting a storage unit?

Student storage can be a better option for students without vehicles or those storing items short-term, since it reduces the need for trucks, multiple trips, and long-term contracts.

What happens if move-in dates change?

Tell us as soon as the new date is set. The fall delivery on this campus is already built around a housing assignment that often does not land until August, so a change is a scheduling adjustment, not an exception. The more notice you give, the more likely your preferred date holds.

What if I live off campus: can I still use student storage?

Yes. The Self-Load Flex container is built for exactly that: an apartment or a curb address in Newhall or Canyon Country, not just a residence hall. Both services cover the Santa Clarita service area; addresses further out may carry an additional fee.

What if I transfer to a new school?

Give us the new address and delivery goes there instead. Box-n-Go serves campuses across Southern California, so a transfer within the region is usually still a pickup and a delivery; further than that, items ship by FedEx, UPS or USPS, and shipping and handling fees apply.

What storage services does Box-n-Go offer for students?

Box-n-Go offers two main student storage options: A la Carte Valet (storage by the box with in-room pickup) and Self-Load Storage (an 8' x 5' portable container delivered to your location). Both include secure indoor storage and flexible scheduling.

How does Box-n-Go's A la Carte Valet service work?

You pack your belongings into boxes (we send a box kit). On pickup day, our crew comes to your room, labels each item, and transports everything to our secure facility. At the end of summer, we deliver everything back to your new room.

What is included in pickup and delivery pricing?

The crew coming to your room or address, transport both ways, indoor storage for the summer, and delivery to wherever you're living in the fall, all covered by the same booking.

It all narrows to a single date. All the halls empty over one weekend in May, so the whole year books inside the same two weeks, and the slots that avoid an exam are gone first. Book the date you want and it is yours, whether that means a Flex container at an apartment or by-the-box service for a room in the halls.
